it depends on the modem itself, it has to be a DD-WRT modem, if it is go here:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index search fro your router, download the software and set it up, there's detailed documentation on the website on how to do this.
PS: just out of curiosity, what vpn service are you subscribed with ? personally im with strongVPN.
