I just purchased the HP Pavilion dv7-4053cl. Its a cool/massive laptop.

Here are the specs:

I am interested in hearing reviews from anyone here that may have the same or a similar laptop. any complains ?

I got the smaller dm4 (it looks the same).
Couple of things that annoy me about it:
-the touchpad (but you get used to it eventually)
-the keyboard is not back lit
-the speakers sound is low
-it used to heat up during summer
Other than that it's very good and powerful.

I'm thinking about buying a Dv7-6099 during(or after) summer

Specs:
CPU: intel i7-2630QM 2.0Ghz(turbo up to 2.9Ghz)
RAM: 8GB DDR3
GPU: Radeon HD6770M 1GB GDDR5
Display: 17.3"(1600X900)
HDD: 2X750GB(sadly at 5400Rpm only)
surely I'll also buy a cooling pad for it ;)

wow.. that's alot of bad luck there lol. I bought my dv5 on Oc 2008 and the only mishap was that my battery dead 2 years after I bought it.

Meh just get a mac, way better !!! My friend of mine have the same laptop, he bought it from the US for like 1600$ the day it was released and now he's having massive problem with it. If i were you, i would have bought the new Macbook pro 15" core i7 , new intel sandy bridge, would have cost a bit more, but it's completely problems free. Except if you're buying it for gaming purposes ?

I think the best companies providing good Windows laptops are Sony or Dell and the worst is Acer. An issue i had with an Acer laptop made me swear not to purchase or pay a single penny on any Acer product.

BootCamp lets you run Windows natively. It also supports your peripherals

very new Mac lets you install and run Windows at native speeds, using a built-in utility called Boot Camp.

@xterm, the problem is with the actual graphics card used, and the mac (iMac, Macbook Pro .. etc ..) all use entry level graphics card.

You know they used to give a lot of options previously to customize your apple machine, right now its quite weak. Why so?

If anyone is interrested in gaming laptops and willing to pay a bit extra..they should try "alienware"

Yeah I'm thinking of getting your same laptop for university in fall since this is huge and not very practical !
Plus I need more processing power than a dual-core AMD (btw is it true this is equivalent to a i3 core Intel Processor?)
Your Laptop has a Phenom II quad core AMD processor which is better for running applications such as C++ Matlab Labview ect..right ?

Well macbooks are just expensive .. I got this one for a very good price from a local dealer !
