hi people.
I didn't know where to post this, since it is a mix of hardware and software talk.
I'm living in Lebanon, and want to maximize a 256 kb/sec Ogero DSL connection.
What is the hardware I need to do this, assuming it exists?
And what is the software, or applications and programs, that I need to do this, assuming it exists and is NOT banned in Lebanon?
Of course, I am full aware that I can get rid of 256 and go for something higher; please do not give such suggestions.
Do not hold back. Use your imaginations.
Thanks.

You have a 256 kilobit connection...even if you were using a copper statue as network wire, you would still be able to transfer more than 256 kilobits per second...which means there is no bottleneck at your side...the best you can do would be to get a good modem, but Ogero is already distributing really good modems nowadays. The bad modems are few: they are usually unknown brands and such. Also, make sure you have a good filter (theat little device that you plug into the telephone socket and gives you a port for the telephone and a port for the modem). Make sure you're using a wired connection (for stability, low latency, etc...), or have an excellent wireless signal (to reduce latency, maintain good speeds). My wireless connection dips below 50 kilobytes per second (400 kilobits) when the signal is low (2 bars). A bit more, and the connection goes. Sometimes it used to dip to 10 kilobytes per second (60 kilobits). I'm using a DI-624 (802.11g) by the way. I have a 512 kilobit connection.

You are not right...
A)3G 21Mbit downlink - semi-myth. I am curious from where it is appeared at all. I guess this is whole capacity of sector. But end-user terminal in ideal conditions(signal!) will receive much less. I expect 3G to be more expensive than DSL.
B)You can improve your 256Kbit. Use traffic compressors. Which? Well i wrote my own :-) Public(free) services usually sucks.
