  • iPhone 4 factory unlocked - Do not update to 4.3.1 !!!

Ok a lot of iphone 4 factory unlocked are having issues when updating to 4.3.1. The factory unlocked iPhones are becoming locked after the update an that's because apple is revoking the unlock code. The thing is that the iphone each time synced with itunes will receive a new unlock code by contacting their servers.

That's a thread on Apple website:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2779471

some online unlocking websites are offering re unlocks but for a very high price by forcing apple server to give an activation token throught iTunes when syncing, your iphone will be in Apple Whitelist unlock. And they're saying that they will unlock your iPhome forever. Competition of the huge number of websites offering this service will cause a decrease in price after some time, even thought all of them gets it from the same source

Well if you need to update to 4.3.1 you can do that by saving your activation token then use it after the updating using SAM by sbinger ( available ) using the " backup activation " option in SAM.
So what you do:
- Install SAM before updating
- Backup activation
- Update to 4.3.1
- Reinstall SAM
- Restore Activation

Sam stores the activation key encrypted on its server.

I think this will work fine! btw anyone with an iPhone 4 factory unlocked had this problem after updating ?

Note: Not all iphone 4 factory unlocked owners will have this problem, but if you did please post here !! ( a lot of owners are having their factory unlocked iphone locked after the update.

Edit: from Sbinger, "any backed up Activations should only be good for 3 years, since that is the validity time of the signatures. Date hacks unknown"

Edit 2: CutYourSim claims that they can just do that, offering permanent unlocking of any GSM iPhone for a one-time fee of $169.99.
Damn it's expensive.

If i were you, i don't update until some better way of bypassing the revoking from apple server after updating, shows up. SAM is still not tested to backup, but SBinger says it should work fine.
Wow, thanks for the heads up! That's very weird.

Including carrier-locked phones??
Well i guess even carrier-locked will be unlocked forever, but i think they know some people working for apple or At&t that will add the iphone in the whitelist unlocks. It takes 2-5 days to do so.
I haven't found a single reason for upgrading from my 4.1 iOS yet :)
I have an iPhone 4 and I updated to 4.3.1 the day it was released. No problems here. I also updated my 3GS and haven't noticed a problem there either. Am I just lucky?

It seems that canadian factory unlocked are having this problem, Apple has a blacklist on their servers.
Shiiiit mine is factory unlocked and Canadian. Is it fixed in the upcoming firmware?
Apple done it on purpose, it's not a bug.

Btw SAM worked perfectly fine, Sbinger will release the backup/restore in the upcoming release, i think in the next couple of days. So after the update, you just install SAM, backup your activation token then restore after the firmware update.
