Hey Guys ,
I recently downloaded Filezilla and FireFTP, and having problems connecting to the website.
does anyone work with any of those programs ?
Thx in advance =)
FileZilla 3.4.0.0 works fine over here.
No problem at all.
Ignorance is bliss.
What are FTP programs ?

What are FTP programs ?
First, you should know what is the File Transfer Protocol. FTP programs are just the tools that uses FTP (an application layer protocol in the IP suite similar to HTTP, SMTP, SSH, Telnet, DNS, etc...) to transfer files from one host to another.

Oh so its like Limewire and Bearshare, If I'm transfering files at home between 2 computers, the speed will be faster or same as download speed ??

No, Limewire are P2P... Peer to Peer. They let several people to share files among each others. They do much more then file transfer, they provide search, etc...
FTP is much simpler. Have you ever browsed windows "shares folders" over the network? FTP lets you do that kind of stuff, but over the Internet, with a server.
You can use most browsers, like Internet explorer, to have read-only access to FTP folders. All you do is write an address in the address bar, it starts with ftp://
Here is an example: ftp://www.secureftp-test.com/
The username and password for the above linke are test and test.
Windows explorer can even do that and it even lets you upload files but it's not very performant. A dedicated FTP client like Filezilla is much better.
Alright, I am a newb here, but I had problems downloading from an FTP server because either the Windows firewall blocked the protocol or the AV did--can't remember which. Best to check and see if that is your problem.
Hello everyone.

Telling us that you have "problems" isn't of much help, and to be honest, there isn't much we can do about it. If you want us to solve your "problems" maybe start giving us more details.

1- What did you want to do?
2- What did you do?
3- What happened?

Ideally, you could produce an error message. Saying you have "problems" ... that could mean anything.

See if you have "passive mode" or "passive ftp" enabled.
sorry for the late reply .
my problem is at the office.
i just tried it home and it worked fine, probably because i have no proxy here.
Well, not probably, i'm sure that's the problem right there.
I can't seem to find a way around that in the office.
Although i did try , tools , options , connection , and input the protocol , host id , and port....no champagne yet.
Any ideas =) ?
Edit : actually, im guessing firewall is blocking the program...
flashfxp does not support unicode file names.
filezilla t randomly refuses to upload files and encodes arabic folders in a very weird way.

I use a mix of filezilla, fireftp and flashfxp, there is no general solution I guess.
7 months later
I recently tried both filezilla and Fireftp home, and it asks me for a username and password...
I fill those up with the administrative username and passwords i use via back-end ( example : www.test.com/admin)
and i get a wrong username/password ...
Is there something i'm missing ?
I mean if it were a proxy or firewall issue, it wouldn't even connect.
Do i need a different username or password ? something i should contact the website's developers for ?
Server: Your domain name (Or IP)
Make sure the port is 21 if you are using FTP only, if SFTP use port 22.

I prefer to use WinSCP. Give it a shot.
