It is a launcher close to WoW launcher, however if you stop downloading for some reason, while they release a new version, the patcher disregards the previous download, and starts all over again in a new folder. Previously, we used to move the big file from the old version folder to new one, but for some reason didn't work now. Tried everything.
Ah, so maybe the new version replaces the older version at the same link... that would be a problem. If they are different HTTP links, then it may be possible to resume the download, if of course the server supports it, which I think it would, given the size of the download. I am also assuming these are HTTP downloads, not some weird proprietary protocol.
HTTP download are all the same, basically. You have a link (URL), that link is resolved to the IP of the server. The server is sent a request for the file, and you start receiving it. If the file is interrupted you can send a request for a chunk of the file only, the remaining chunk of course. That is what people call resume download. Technically it is called "chunked transfer" if my memory serves me well.
Most of these parameters can be controlled with for wget or other "advanced" tools, and the link, server IP, and all that can be known by running a network analyzer (I use Wireshark) to capture and analyze the traffic and see how this system works. wget can resume files. In the worst case I think chunks can be manually stuck together.
This is what I'm thinking about. But there are some things which can get in the way of all this working.
