MrClass Hey everyone. Today I witnessed a very bizarre behavior with my internet. For 1-2 minutes, my download speed went up to 502KB/s. Yes 502KB/s not 502Kb/s. Literally my jaws dropped to the ground. After that my normal internet speed came back. I was downloading teamviewer 6.0 from their website using my home computer. I have Terra 512K DSL connection. For all of you out there, have anyone experienced any major internet speed boost for a minimal amount of time? By the way, I am sure that the downloaded application is not cached in my browser (firefox). It's the first time I access the teamviewer website from my home computer. Too bad I didn't have enough time to print screen, but now I have the snipping application ready to capture this rare activity.
Georges Miracles are happening here too :) Not a 500KB/s speed for few minutes, but instead, ~120 KB/s for few hours :) I don't know why or how. This is simply happening.

rolf Reminds me of a couple of things... Once I was subscribed to a local cable, and they used PPTP. I discovered that I could dial several PPTP sessions at the same time, using the same username/password, on Linux (the window client did not allow that). I managed to reach very high speeds (relatively) by splitting a file over 4 connections. After a short while their system "crashed" then it stopped working... I also once got a subscription from Openskies, or Eutelsat I think... The download speed would sometimes reach 300KB/S! The subscription was cheap - like 10 or 20$/ month... but it was limited to 1 or 2 Gb... it finished in 1 week. We also took a "dedicated" (that was just a marketing term) connection from VISP. Although "dedicated" was a marketing term, it was still a pretty good connection! Anyway during the first couple of monthes, they actually, somehow, forgot to apply the correct bandwidth rules or something like that, so during all that time we had like 1mbps (if not more) both ways!! One day someone (might have been me) called to complain about some problem and they realized that and it stopped.... I still regret that this call was made! So anyway... I don't know about your case but those things can happen, maybe the bandwidth was really unrestricted, or just a bug in your software... EDIT: Or most probably your file was cached on the proxy... lol. Where did the geeks go...
MrClass no proxy used, and definitely not a bug (unless you're accusing firefox for being a buggy browser)

Georges nona wroteme to i got up to 912KB/s for just 2 secs than back to 34KB/s :( Faulty software calculations...

I was receiving something like 800 KB/s. But that was too good to stay, now it's under the normal speed (1 Mb/s) I pay for: no more than 10 KB/s... My local cable provider says that it is slow again because of the actual situation in Syria, he tries to make me believe that this is coming from a sort of "intentional regional interference", but I don't believe him.
MegaCool Nothing but burst-enabled connection, for a while probably. Back in 2010, I used to get up to 220KB/s for few good 1-2 minutes, then go back to reality - 25-30KB/s. Now burst feature doesn't even exist, yeah we actually go back unlike what its supposed to be a 'progression' forward. So nothing to panic and look forward to, simple bug/burst, nonetheless :p

rolf MrClass wrotehow can you explain the fact that teamviewer 6 (3.8 MB) took 3 seconds to download? Let me repeat my self... I think it's a proxy. Check this address: http://whatismyipaddress.com And see if it says proxy. Usually even transparent proxy will leave add a "VIA" header in the HTTP request. But if they don't then there's no easy and straightforward way to detect them AFAIK.
Jad Georges wrotewhere do you live ? In Sin el Fil, Saloumi, Akar street (near Al Sayideh street). Something freaky is that my local cable provider is also named Georges :p
EddieEC Believe it or not my friend has a a ~200-400 KB/s connection. YES KB. It's steady. He downloads a 4 MB file in seconds. Proof: https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/73130_164106743617103_100000533367921_450698_3293008_n.jpg. IT ISN'T A "BURST".
