Hello everyone i hope you enjoy my review of Crysis 2 on PS3.
So I got the game today from Nino on PS3 and before I go on about the "insides" of the game I have to complain about games coming out these days requiring updates while still on day 1 or 2. You go buy a game and come home happy like a little kid with a lollipop and all of the sudden a 30mb or something update is required and it's still day one. Well anyways this gives you time to read the manual!
The update is 38mb and it won't take much time (depending on your connection)...after the update is finished, time for some fun; WAIT! this game needs to install some data first, so this takes 7 minutes to finish.
At the main menu, after you get an option to adjust the brightness, you find the usual story, multiplayer, settings, etc. There is a place to check out some unlock-able game vids, flashbacks, and the music score of the game, I like to have the option of listening to the game music, i wish more companies adopt this like EA. There are also 4 types of collectible to find in this game which is a nice touch that adds re-play value to games and a cool way to feed your need for Trophies.
There are 4 levels of difficulty in this game: Recruit, Soldier, Veteran, and Super-soldier; and unlike other games, all levels of difficulty are available to try out from the start. I tried out the Soldier difficulty and it felt just right.
You start out the game with 2 introductory movies, the 1st one sets the theme, and the 2nd is a cool show-off. A nice touch to the 1st person view is the ability to see your feet if you look down, maybe no one cares about this i don't know. Right at the start of the game you get a funny trophy (depends on whether you get the funny part or not).
The controls and the movement are really fast and really friendly, you can tell they successfully "consolized" it. The ability to quickly toggle your Nano-suit powers is quick and enhances the action in the game, and there are some nice gameplay mechanics like being able to grab many of the stuff and garbage laying around the city and either throw it normally or power-throw it to longer distances and with high power; not only can you grab objects, but you can also grab-hold people and throw them, you can also do Stealth Kills while being cloaked or simply punch people and kick doors and stuff. You can also power slide on the ground while running like in KZ3, but the better difference here is that you can kick someone while sliding, and this option is also available in the multiplayer which is cool. There's also an automatic cover system, all you have to do is crouch (you can't prone) behind a cover and you'll be able to hold L1 to aim and shoot from behind the cover. Also during the game, i forgot which button it is, but you can open your hand and out from the tip of your fingers you'll have several options and abilities to upgrade you suit with, and for that you'll need to collect some sort of points but i didn't find any yet to try it.
I'll not go into anything about the Story to avoid spoilers, it's not a piece of art but it serves well the purpose of the game, an the sandbox theme, the city, is nice.
To the multiplayer part, this game doesn't come with a key to use like other EA games, you'll just need do a one time login with your EA email and password and you're set to go. In the multiplayer menu you can got to customize your classes but only available at rank 5, there is a place for unlocks, leaderboards, and clan tags. A vital option for having online fun with your friends is the ability to invite your friends into a squad at the main multiplayer menu, that way you can join matches together with your friends as a squad and avoid splitting your friends into opposite teams while joining a game.
There is no server browser like the pc version, but you can be very specific on choosing how you like the server to be, i'll explain this further more. There are 6 multiplayer modes to choose from, they do have specific names and uniques styles of play but simply put they are clones of TDM, FFA, CTF, Capture and Hold, and the other two are different, in one of them one player in the team has a Nanosuit and the others are normal soldiers and there's some objective you have to complete, though i didn't get to try out the last two modes. The way you can be specific on how you want to play out these modes is optional by using a sort of "sub-modes" option. After you choose the main mode, let's say TDM, then you can pick one of several sub-mode options:
1. New Recruit: for players of level 1-10
2. Standard Rules: to avoid joining a server with freaky customized options.
3. Fast Rounds: less time between matches, for faster map rotation.
4. Solo: you cannot play in squads, for the lone cowboys out there.
5.Classic: Play without your Nanosuit.
6. Pro: the hardcore mode, which i personally dislike, but i didn't try it yet in this game.
While the countdown is on before the game starts, you have the option to auto-mute everyone else or auto-mute people not in your squad, or auto-mute Off, this option is handy to quick-mute instead of clicking on each player alone, which you can still do if there's only one annoying player you want to shut. There's an impressive number of 12 or 13 maps to start with online which is more than I can say for the rest of the shooters out there. Remember that you can still do the power-slide and kick thingy in the multiplayer which is both handy and fun. Additional nice touches in the online is the power jump to jump very high and the ability to grab ledges if the jump wasn't high enough, you can also grab and pull away the gun implacments placed in the maps if you feel like taking them with you, they are only accurate when in their place, if you pull them off, they stay as powerful but lack the accuracy and makes you too heavy moving around.
Besides leveling and gathering points to unlock equipment and different stuff like dogtags to show off, you also gather points exclusive to Stealth, Armor, or Power. As you play online, you gather either type of these points depending on your style of play, so if you depend on power too much you'll get some Power points, with these points you can unlock perks from the Power perks, it's a slightly enhanced variation of the classic cod-perk system, but nothing sophisticated or anything. There are more variations in-game during multiplayer you'll figure them up as you play, but a noticeably good one to mention is the way you achieve killstreaks, to prevent noobs and campers from killing and getting killstreaks to kill some more while still camping and being a noob, you'll have to collect some shiny thing that drops off the body of your killed enemy. example: let's say i killed a player while going up some stairs, the shiny thing (i still dont know what this thing is) appears on the body of the player so pick it up, and that's 1/3 items, 2 more and i get the killstreak; if I snipe someone from far aways, i'll still have to go and pick that shiny thing or else my kill won't count into the killstreak, but note that noone else can pick your shiny thing up only you see it, and even if you kill someone after you die like with a grenade or something, you can still find the item available in that same spot after you respawn.
This thing get's the game going faster and I didn't find Snipers or campers to be annoying in this game at all, cause after all you can switch you Nano-vision on and spot them in their hiding place, even if they have Stealth On. I was having a hard time finding a game, cause apparently no one is playing this game yet but me and 4 other people, cause every time i look for another match i end up with the same 4 people. Anyways, i'll keep trying the game some more at the moment, and if find something important to mention i'll edit it quickly, especially in multiplayer cause i didn't get to play it a lot
2 things I wanted to leave for the end is graphics and sound effects. The graphics are fine, not amazing or superb or anything, just good and better than some other available shooters at the moment. The game seems to be running in 1080p, plz nobody start wars or trash about this cause it's not the place and I am just describing the game at the moment. For people who are into 3d and stuff, this game pulls some fine 3d, compared to other 3d games I say Crytek did a fine job on the 3d thingy. Sound effects are excellent, if you have some good hardware you'll enjoy this game, and the alien noise and sounds are also nice.
That's it for now, I'll be playing some more, and if something important comes up I'll be sure to edit this review.
Thank you, and if you have any question do ask, but i can't promise I'll answer directly cause it's 2:26 am now...

Here's my 360 quick review :
At first the game had some simple glitches , after the first update (3 mb) most of those glitches were gone , the campaign is great and long , Graphics are the best i have seen on a console , yes even better than uncharted 2 , amazing multiplayer(Similar to COD ) but more balanced and fast , and has some great perks .
What i didn't really like , AL is dumb , they run in circles , but this has decreased after the Update, still this is no easy game.
Verdict : 9.0
To every 360 owner Get this game, Simple as that.
Also i read the ps3 version has some framerate drops , and inferior graphics , they aren't that bad , i have played at my friend's house i'd give it a 8.8 , not really a problem , so really ps3 owners get this game.
And to Chosen2k , no it doesn't
