  • [Problem] Speedtouch 546v6 modem randomly switching IPs!

My setup is:

Speedtouch 546v6------PC
------Router LinkSys-------PS3

Both the PC and router are enabled on DHCP for retrieving an IP from the Modem.

The prob is after a period of time the PS3 disconnects from the WiFi router and the router is assigned a new IP by the modem, though i have always use the same address ticked. This only happens once by the way.

The weird thing if i assign manually the IP of the router on my LAN network the modem wil detect it as static IP but doesn't allow me to DMZ my router.

Any help appreciated!
there is a way where you can register the mac address of the PS3 to a specific IP
Well i did do that on my router but why is the modem suddenly changing IPs? Knowing that when you tick always use the same address the lease time will be about 50 days.
It seems that when the electricity is cut from the modem and router during the day, the modem resets the IPs at 12 am during the next day. So i will try to turn off the modem and router manually. Also i will check the time zone on my modem because this might have an effect too.

I am still unable to solve the problem and it seems that it occurs once i DMZ my router on the Modem.

I costumized the time on the modem using the Windows time server and everything is as it should be yet again the connect was dropped from the PS3 suddenly and the same prob happened.
By the way the router displays the lease time of the internet IP assigned by the modem as 24 hours while on the modem that IP is for 50 days.
Today i checked my modem and it maintained my IP it has a lease time of 48 days now so everything is ok on the modem side. So it could be the PS3 dropping the connection and from what i have read i think i should assign static ip on the router for the ps3 (which i did by reserving the ip for the ps3 on the router). Next i should disable SSID broadcast and i am going to try that today.

Note: I noticed that my router uses channel 9 always (i set that to automatic) though at my work the router(of different brand) changes channels everyday.
After i have disabled SSID broadcasting, and monitoring my PS3 if it disconnects or not it seems everything is ok.
As for the IP issue it seems that because i leave my network running and the electricity turns them off everyday(you all know why :( ), the modem switches IP automatically so it isnt technically a problem.

P.S: I would like to inform you that PSN is having some issues lately and that is why maybe only yesterday i was disconnected from PSN, i wasnt able to see the error code.
I was able to see the error code(finally) it is 8002AD36, and of course used Google to search for help. I found a lot of links to PlayStation forum community website, maney has this proble yet no solution but i was able to find this handy error code tool website. Searched for the error code and it actually gave me many reasons including:

- WiFi network Interference
- Confirmation of the SSID
- Weak Signal
- Confirmation of the Wireless Security Used (WPA or WEP)

I dont have any of these causes. But from the forums i have searched on PlayStation Community it seems that PSN might be screwing up sometimes because this error actually didn't happen to me for about 2 days. Then it suddenly came back though downloading on PS3 is consistent with no errors.

So till now i can conclude that there is a problem on PSN side but i will keep on working to find if i have a hole on my side.
One Last Update: The PS3 error 8002AD36 seems to be unknown error by many nothing specific to say here it might by largely from the PSN server side, or some interference i am not aware of.
As for the modem i update the firmware to 7.4.3.2 and it can be found here(only one download is allowed per day). For more detailed information about DMZing on the modem can be found here.
An interesting thing about the Speedtouch 546v6 modem is that even after you upgrade the firmware old bugs will remain(mostly) and some new ones will be revealed over time so dont blame me if anything goes wrong after you upgrade the firmware.

Finally after all the tests i have made it is clear that after you turn off (or the electricity) the modem it doesnt keep the router in DMZ and instead assigns it a normal IP from the DHCP pool though you can still find the router DMZed on the "Assign the public IP address of a connection to a LAN device" page. (Note: to find out more about this read the forum link i have provided before.)

A work-around for that is to:
1- unassign the router from the DMZ
2- Assign it again
3- Turn the router off(For 2 minutes)
4- Turn it on and voila.

There is another work-around but it is not 100% successful, simply by rebooting the modem(546v6) constantly till you notice that the device was successfully DMZ-ed.

Case Closed. :)

That is a exactly what many told me to do but if you read my thread from the beginning it is clear that it isn't as easy as it seems.

After some more experimenting i have found a better solution then the work-around i have posted here.

All you have to do is just when you finish working with the WiFi router turn it off and keep the modem working normally, if the electricity is off then its ok only the modem should turn off. After the electricity is back the modem wil of course automatically turn on, while the router not. Once you want to use your router after that moment turn it on manually, wait for 2 minutes and log in to your 546 modem using the browser. You should notice that it is still assigned a public IP on your modem, the local IP of the router is not a 192.168.1.64-253 range but it is something like: 10.150.45.67.

This will keep your router DMZed without the need what i mentioned earlier regarding the work-around.
This post is related to the PS3 PSN error 8002AD36:

After some more searching it seems that due to some congestion in the ISPs network this error may occur, and this is highly applicable in my case because i couldn't find any problem on my side and also i dont think Sony Computer Entertainment Europe would keep a problem such as this going on for months.
