I'm sure many of you are right now preparing all sorts of pies in celebration of Pi Day (today is 3/14). I too once celebrated this constant as shining beacon of the power of mathematics, until I learned the truth.
Pi is not the true circle constant. That would be Tau (or 2*Pi).
While Pi is defined as the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter:
You can now go back to celebrating "Half Tau Day", and hopefully celebrate Tau Day on June 28th (6/28).
Pi is not the true circle constant. That would be Tau (or 2*Pi).
While Pi is defined as the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter:
Pi = C/d
The true circle constant, Tau, is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its radius:
Tau = C/r
What is this madness, you ask? Find out more about why Tau is the true circle constant. The proof is in the Pi!You can now go back to celebrating "Half Tau Day", and hopefully celebrate Tau Day on June 28th (6/28).
