Hello Everyone. I have a couple computers at work which have a cracked version of Eset Nod V4 installed. They do not belong to the school, but to the teachers (personal laptops). Since I do not allow the usage of cracked software in my network (I don't care if it's the president's computer, cracked = I ban your ass), I need a free solution. What is the best (or most recommended) free antivirus out there? I need something which is free to use, doesn't display ads while updating, isn't a resource hog like shitty norton, and is allowed to use within an enterprise. The antivirus doesn't have to come with a firewall or any advanced features. An antivirus with email scanning is enough. I did look around and found Avira (though displays annoying ads every 15 minutes). How about Avast? Thanks for any replies.
Best Free Antivirus
since there is windows essentials antivir ill use it, and i really like it
Microsoft Security Essentials.I'm using it and it's pretty good.

Microsoft Security Essentials :)
hmm, seems microsoft made a decent antivirus. I downloaded it and installed it. Time to test, lets bombard it with a couple of infected flash drives :)
Eset smart security
But you need to deactivate the security in order open this site which gives you free ESS keys
nod327.net (:

try avira antivir or kaspersky.
I use avast! Antivirus.
i recommend avast free edition not that advanced but can do the job... but i think it need online activation even for the free edition
im going with Microsoft's Security Essentials. It's a good software, free, doesnt consume alot of resources, and is fully compatible with windows (at least wont hit any BSODs like other antiviruses, like bitdefender). Still testing though.

i used microsoft security essentials for around a month....uninstalled it!! yes i agree its good but slows down the pc greatly compared to kaspersky!
well im using kaspersky pure ITS EPIC! its the best out there!! you can download it and use it for 30 days as a trial, everything works just like you've bought it for real, until the trial period ends...then u just reset the trial with the kaspersky ressetter and reinstall the trial license ;D (takes 2 min)
try it guys, been doing that for years!

Microsoft Security Essentials, since it is from MICROSOFT, it is good for NOTHING!! My friends and I tried it for almost a year, and NO viruses appeared!!! Our computers were affected by several kinds of viruses!
We had to purchase Norton Antivirus 2011, its cheap 22$/year. Concerning the problem with memory consumption and startup time, they solved it. Windows boots as if there is no Antivirus installed.
If you need a FREE AntiVirus, I don't recommend Microsoft Security Essentials...

iv been usin mse for a month its virus database is good but it lacks features, and slows the pc if your a gamer or an enthusiast or poweruser but for everyday users its great for them.
another good antivirus is AVG Free iv been using this for years since it first came out, its light it has lots of features has antispyware and lots of features its a very nice antivirus if you dont want a pirated one
BTW NOD or anything that ESET has is jst crap and a sorry excuse for an antivirus
i used nod4 once and the virus was freakin infront of me and it didnt detect it. so just about any antivirus is better than nod
I hate AVG. I used to have it long time ago until for some unknown reason it started crashing my PC. Sometimes even I had to do restore. Once I removed it, all went well. Then I switched to Avira. It is decent, but didn't really make me feel secure as it didnt catch that many viruses or so. Finally Im using Avast, and so far so good :).
PS: All of the ones I mentioned are free.

Go to www.download.cnet.com
Check free in the list on the upper right, then search for antivirus, read the reviews and see the ratings, then judge yourself, ( i chose cnet because its a widely used website for downloading software, and all the programs are tested, and virus free )
