I am now posting for the 4th time. My threads keep getting deleted without any explanation whatsoever. Im gonna try one more time.
My parents are moving to Lebanon this summer and want to set up their internet. Im looking for a reasonably fast connection (1mbps at least) with unlimited bandwidth. I know that none of the main ISPs offer speeds above 1mbps and only have unlimited traffic at night. Are there any satellite ISPs that offer unlimited bandwidth? Any other options?
if you delete this thread at least give me a reason

I`m not an Admin but here is the explanation. It is simply Illegal. 2.There are no good ISPs in lebanon just forget it tried for 8 months to get anything above 512K but got screwed by a reseller whom I paid to get a 1mbps because he asked for document none can bring like passport copies of like 10 people and so on....then tried to get 2 mb hdsl for like 1000$ registration and got laughed at because those assholes in the stores think they are smart when they tell you that no one needs such a huge amount of speed get a hold of that they do not even want to sell it yeah....now I^m trying once more and as it seems you need an internet line and an isp which both have to pay around 220$ each so bottom line forget it here in lebanon you basically have two choices either you live with whats available or you pay a huge amount of money to get what you want like I am going to do now because I am sick of it.
I hope for you that you are rich because lebanon sucks ass concerning that matter if you don`t have at least 1600-unlimited $ per month want more info just pm me !

how expensive are we talking to get something decently fast with unlimited bandwidth? If its high cost for the hardware but reasonable monthly rates then thats fine...if its thousands a month then its not worth it. Who offers 2mbps? From looking around Ive only found up to 1 mbps

ogero and sodetel offer the hdsl it costs 902.000 LL at ogero for the registration and then 165.000 for the nternet line monthly and again 300.000 monthly basic fees.
then there is sodetel which want 400$ for installation and 200$ monthly but I trying to find out if we still would need this internet line from ogero even if I take it from sodetel this so fucked up in lebanon no one tells you what to do and where...so feel free to ask
oh and after you used the internet line 300 hours you need to pay 49LL every hour more so basically it like 902.000+165.000+300.000 in the first month plus maybe overused internet line 200 trillions (joke) but you should calculate 1500$ to get it after that its around 200 per month oh and don`t listen to those assholes in the shops concerning "this is only for business" they LIE!!!! Its for residences to just found out yesterday and still RAGED because they make a fool out of everyone who asks about that feel free to ask about anything I just moved here 9 months ago and speak freely about what I found out so far but please pm me

HDSL offers 2.3mbps but it's limited to 8GB.
The reason your thread is possibly getting deleted, is because this has been discussed loads. Try searching the forum.

the limit is not only 8gb but it is also time limited but forunately you can buy additional usage for 10$ per gb and 49 LL for each hour more than 300 this sucks but it`s the best here in Lebanon and thank god it exists....

I am surprised your threads would get deleted. I would expect them to get locked maybe, since that topic has been discussed countless times and members are expected to use the search before posting, yet usually it is not about satellite internet, so I'm not sure your post qualifies. I'm thinking maybe there's a technical problem that makes your threads disappear, or something like that...
Regarding satellite, bidirectional satellite requires a license, and importing the necessary equipment also requires some kind of approval. Downlink satellite - in which you only receive data from the satellite but send through modem or DSL or another mean is available and legal. AFAIK satellite prices are high and make "DSL" look like a more interesting option, although I might be missing something.
And there is no such thing as unlimited bandwidth here (sorry!). With a budget from $100 to $200 dollars a month (forgot the details) you could probably get a 1mbps connection from Ogero with enough monthly quota to watch youtube videos whenever you want (as long as you're not some kind of 24/7 addict), occasionally download MP3s or listen to internet radio, or download 1 or 2 gigs of software. You won't be able to download DVD's (whether movies or games), but then you can get a copy of them for a couple dollars a copy at one of these piracy shops. Online gaming is also possible (although not high quality), something that is not so doable on satellite due to the huge roundtrip. I have heard DSL is a pain to setup though.
The network is supposedly in the process of being upgraded, if you're lucky you'll see improvements, but don't count on it.

is the HDSL connection unlimited at night?

SORRY NO :( Adsl 1mb neither as said with sodetel its at least 8 up and 8 down so 16gb and you can buy more usage for not too much at least and don`t try this bullshit about double speed at night it does never work just never sadly that what you get in lebanon :(

Do you need to have a company to get this line?
@proners: I do know a lot of people from Germany who can speak proper English.

Cleaned and locked.
@anonchi: the other threads were getting deleted/locked because they were previously discussed at length and usually end up in flamewars. Please search before posting.
