rahmu wroteSimple answer: You do it.
If something is missing and you want it to happen, well someone's got to start somewhere. There are some dev conferences/workshop/barcamps happening in Lebanon, I'll let other tell you more about them. But if you feel like starting a dev meeting, conference or whatever, why not start yourself?
Book a room at Uni, put up a couple of posters in the hall, have a 30 min talk ready about your experience as a developer, and BAM you've got yourself a conference.
If you did that, it'd be so awesome!
Everyone should know his limits and try not to bypass them. Those who talk at conferences have 10+ years of experience in the technologies they're presenting. They're fully comfortable with the stuff they're talking about and used it on several real-world projects. On the other hand, I do not think I have the required experience to talk at a conference. Moreover, talking at a conference requires certain communication skills I'd like to develop further more. But yeah, I guess in a year or two, there shouldn't be anything that prevents me from doing it :)
saeidw wroteLast year in October there was a DevCamp in Beirut. It was a lot of fun and I got to meet interesting people (including samer, arithma, and cnicolaou!). It would definitely be interesting to set up another one of those.
Ah yes. It was about Ruby On Rails. I really wanted to attend but I had final exams at that time. But to be honest, I'm more interested in Microsoft technologies at the time being. But some of the subjects I'd like to see in a conference are the following:
- A practical TDD workshop.
- Domain Driven Design architecture.
- Tips and tricks to improve efficiency of writing code (writing faster and better code).
- A real-world multi-layered application that uses jQuery and AJAX extensively.
- iPhone and Android development.
- A C++ session covering some of the more useful libraries for client-server development and GUI development.
