here is a brief comparison between the motorola Xoom and apple iPad 2
which will you choose?

which will you choose?

You sound so sure man.MrClass wroteWell I have seen tons of manufacturers trying to imitate Apple's ipad. Whether its Samsung, Motorola, Blackberry, it's all going to fail. Although these manufacturers have some decent mobile devices, they are still missing 1 point: functionality. I doubt you can find the same apps of Apple's App store (or Installous if you jailbreak). Go to the apps and you can find anything you want. Apple is bringing exactly what we need: an ultra mobile device that can help through the day, whether at work, at school, at home; it can do it all. Yes the ipad1/2 does not have the high specs of other devices, cause we really dont need high specs in a mobile device. Who needs a 5MP camera to video conference online god dammit. You want to capture pictures? Go buy a 200$ digital camera. What about memory? This is not Windows, it's iOS; doesn't need 1GB of useless power consuming memory. 4G? No comment.
When it comes to mobility, its the apps and size that matter, period. Ipad2 for the win.
So you wanna buy something almost useless now because in the future it will be way better? Now i'm going to buy a Tablet that doesn't have 100 apps that work on it, most of the time it crashes, a lot of problems and more as i mentioned.eurybaric wrote^ You sound so sure man.
Primo, I agree bout the apps at the current times, but what about the future? I mean Xoom uses Android, right? and that OS is being used on more and more devices out there. Which means that programmers will be more tempted to program for Android as its userbase gets larger. I wonder though if one os is easier to program than another....
As for hardware specs, I dont know how you can compare Android with windows its something totally different. And i remember something Bill gates said in the late 80's / early 90's about no one needing more than 640K of memory .. Oh wait its in mOei's sig! lol!.
No offence but you really sound like an apple fanboy hehe
i really dont care about flash that much so i didnt out in the comparison but some people need it to have full web experience. the upgrade from 3G to LTE 4G is included in the price so shipping and everything and they need maximum of 6 working days so it might only take them 4 or 5. As for the colors there are 2 colors the black went on sale and silver one coming by end of this month, along side a wifi only version for 539$ (32GB). speakers in the back are no problem since its got 2 stereo speakers with synthetic surround sound! 64GB models in Q2, but it is no problem since you and micro sd slot you can have 64GB worth of storage now with 32gb memory card which i will be functional very soon. its not that heavy it weighs as much as ipad 1 did so its not over weight, and that hardware Superiority justifies the extra 100 grams. You cant send test with the ipad two. as for the apps there are over 100 honycomb apps in the market considering sdk was released on the feb 24, 11 days from today ill give it a month or two max to have a good catalog of honeycomb apps + google is pushing on anti fragments solution making all apps that are not tablet specific to be upgraded into tablet app.m0ei wroteThis is my post from iPad 2 Announced but it got removed because no need to discuss the xoom. But good that you posted this.
"I don't think Flash is a big mess, count the number of millions of ipad and iphone sold, that explains why Flash isn't a big deal. For the Xoom, they shouldn't say it comes with flash while they need to make people wait to get flash on it. IT NEEDS TONES OF WORK.
Before starting with the tech stuff, i wanna start with the marketing plan. Why the hell will they release the 3g version before the Wifi ? I think it's a very bad marketing plan. As your saying, from Wifi to 3g, your paying 200$ without the taxes + forced data plan. And why will they release the tablet without the LTE chipset ? so no 4g, you need to send it to them paying the shipping price + waiting time of at least 7 days.
"The 3G activation works like this:
Activate it once and you pay the rate ($20 = 1GB), fine but here's where it goes off the rails. You have to either suspend or cancel your account at the end of the month to stop the 3G access.
If you cancel, you have to pay the $35 activation fee the next time you access 3G and you get a new account number and phone number. This will occur with every activation/cancel cycle
If you suspend the 3G access, it ca be suspended for up to 3 months max, then it kicks back on. Meaning that if you want access in April, then not again until November you will have to pay for July's access in the interim whether you use it or not.
And to either of these options, you must call Verizon each time, without being able to manipulate it on the tablet. "
Tech:
- it's heavy. Tablets must be thin so you can enjoy reading/browsing.... look at the nook or Kindle or iPad.
- There is no way of getting music & movies onto the device , They need to be sold via Android Market.
- microSd is still not functioning.
- They didn't reach 100 yet, takes months to see more apps.
- As bestbuy is saying, there might not be a WIFI only version until couple of months, only a 3g. So the price will hold lots of people back from buying it.
- no 16/32/64gb choice.
- A bit too heavy for one handed use.
- They rushed to get this out before Honeycomb was ready.
- Speaker are available at the back, it sounds horrible.
- you can't send any texts with it till now.
- They advertised that the battery life is almost 10 hours, most people complaining that max is 6 hours.
- You can't charge with a USB till now. (not sure)
- Websites recognize it as a Phone.
Well that's most of the problems my uncle told me, he bought one and then returned it back.
I don't really get it, why will they start selling a Tablet with Honeycomb that isn't ready yet to be sold. It lacks a lot."
I didn't really talk about the Pro's of the iPad and the iOS. And i wanna bet that for every 20-30 iPad 2 is sold, 1 Xoom will be sold.
Edit: And i think it's retarded to take a picture with a Tablet, come on holding something that big to take a photo ? i don't guess so, so apple just made the cams for Facetime and i think it's enough. Btw it's not 0.7, that's a rumour.
The Flyer has a single-core processor for now. Reps have stated that the dual-core processors didn’t make sense with Android 2.4; there’s not much multi-threading to take advantage of the multiple cores.
1GB of RAM, 32GB flash storage
aluminum unibody construction
1024 x 600 resolution for the display
HTC Sense for tablets
Bluetooth 3.0
5 MP back camera; 1.3 MP front camera
If apple think no one would use the ipad to take pictures and videos with it then why give it rear facing cam just give front facing camera for facetime. and as for the rear facing camera it is 0.7mp the same found on the ipod touch 4g, thats why you cant take pictures with it only videos due to the low resolution. if you you want to put a rear facing cam then iy should be the best not tiny cam to save space and weight while compromising quality it sould be always the best thing or dont put one in the first place!m0ei wroteThe strange thing is when you compare two cameras, like go ahead compare the camera of any phone with the iphone camera.
Nokia N8 has a 12 mp cam, iPhone 4 has a 5 mp cam. I tried it, and both are almost the same or the iPhone is even better when taking a photo or recording Video.
The same will apply here, i think apple knew no one will hold the iPAd to take a picture, it will be used for facetime only and i think that is enough for facetime. And i prefer a tablet that has a good battery life of 10 hours and a month of standby rather than tablets that starts with 8 hours and end like 4 hours of cam after couple of weeks of uses.
i understand that 100 aps are not much but android honeycomb sdk only released 12 days ago and devs are just getting the development devices to start pushing out apps, give it a month or so and i can assure you will find 2000+ apps. As for the 1GB memory you need it because ios doesnt really run the 3rd party apps in the background except for some, it actually freezes the app and only save partial information, and when you pres back on the app the app retrieves the information that was stored tells the app to resume from that point really easy way of explaining it is when you play a game on pc and close the game and reopen it and load the save, the save file is like 500kb it just tells the game to go back to that point. thats why not all apps support ios "multi tasking". on android its different all the apps that you open run in the background just like you have on your pc.MrClass wrote100 apps is nothing compared to Apple's App store (or Installous). I also doubt the ipad2 will last 10 hours. Maybe 8. What's with the 1GB of memory? I multitask on my ipad, and everything runs smoothly; again, no need for 1GB of memory.
did you really read this before posting this??!! So instead of fixing Idevices problems you should work your way around them very interesting! you sound like this :AMDeeb wroteRemember when the first iPhone was out?
People said:
1) Ohh NO Bluetooth support! I can't send a song to my friend
2) NO video support?!
3) NO MMS?
And much more complains
later, we discovered that:
1) There are 100 ways to send your friend a song
2) Video recording in a mobile device is not that good. If you want to take pictures and video clip, buy a small cheap digital camera, and you will get a much better quality.
3) NO MMS..Hmm, Mobile emailing got easier, and much cheaper, you are not charged/KB.
The same debate is back.
1) Do we need an SD slot in a Tablet?
As long as its a tablet, dedicating a separate slot just for SD will be space consuming.
2) Do we need a 5MP+ camera to taking pictures?
5MP camera would consume a lot from the memory, and most people will keep their pictures on the tablet, so you will notice a lot of complains about the in sufficient memory.
As MrClass said, you can buy a digital camera.
3) No Flash support?
Now, the use of a Tablet is mainly when you feel more confident using a mobile device rather than a laptop.
And f you are using an iPad/iPhone, you will discover that there are many websites that have Apps on the Apps store in order to enjoy accessing their website, like Twitter, Facebook, CNN.
Also, Flash play will consume a lot of battery life.
So its clear now, Apple is doing what its best for us. Copycats will not succeed.
At least we agree on something here...rahmu wroteWhy does it always have to be a war? Sure marketing people are fighting against each other, but marketing people are going to hell anyway, with all the lawyers and Real Madrid fans
