When we were using ''cable'' connections the cable guy used to say that if the connection could seem slow sometimes it's because the ip is shared, then when ADSL arrived the main advertised advantage was ''you get a dedicated IP''...
Yeah right!!
Not only ISP are using shared IPs with ADSL but they are overloading them, the result is catastrophic:
-You can barelly download or watch a movie from megaupload which is the main TV episodes free place because someone from the same IP is doing it.
-If you can begin to download anything from megaupload you can see yourself ''disconnected'' when you are at 80% :(
-You can't use Emule because the ip is ''weak''
-You can't access some forums because your ip has been banned
-You can't download from Rapidshare or similar without waiting endlessly that the guy who is using your shared ip finish his download and even then your download can stop at any moment without resume option.
Though our office ADSL from Ogero has much less problems of connection to those websites, all these problems are occuring with my home ADSL in Achrafieh and Cyberia made us pay 4 additional $ per month last year to get better connection while nothing improved!!!!!!!
I heard IDM is not better, it remembers me these pubs and nightclub that can contain maximum 100 pers and pack in 300 just because they pay more

Well i'm subscribed with IDM and i think it's very good comparing to OGERO.
I used to pay another 50$ additional fee (Extra download). Maybe the IP sharing is causing a lot of problems to some but i don't really mind because i have premium accounts for Rapidshare/Megaupload... so i only use my internet to browse and read some articles or downloading at night.
Ogero is the only company giving dedicated IP to each customer and their price is higher. The others can't because they are giving Unlimited traffic from 11:00 till 7:00 Am and double speed from 8 to 8. Well i know double speed is not true, but i get almost a stable 98-101 kb/s at night.

Terranet is also giving dedicated IPs, but you have to differ between you IP address and ISP proxy address, since rapidshare take Proxy address as your IP address.

Despite all my efforts i wasn't able to acquire a dedicated IP. Ogero clearly stated that it does not provide such a thing for ADSL users. Are you sure its possible?

I have to say that torrents are always a better option than megaupload or rapidshare. You can always find any given tv episode, any series, any movie, and you won't face the same problems you get from using mega or rapid. I've given up on those two a long time ago and only resort to torrents.

Yeah I download Supernatural episodes from Bob on pirate bay, they are in 720p but only 140mb each (instead of 350mb) but many music albums are not on torrents (nor in Lebanon lol)

@xterm: I am not sure but I think I do have a dedicated IP. I never had problems downloading from rapidshare or megaupload or any of those file sharing websites. My download rate is always constant day and night. I have a 512K plan and I might upgrade to 1MB next month, but overall I'm happy with my connection.

well when I was with ogero, i did not have any problems downloading from rapidshare or any file sharing company. Worst case scenario if my IP was being used, I turn off my router, turn it on again and voila get a new fresh IP. Once I joined terranet, rapidshare was a no go. IP was always (and still) used. that is why I resorted to torrents as well. the problem is that i dont always find the software i need via torrents, so file sharing is still important to me.
Kassem, which ISP are with now? I guess ogero, right?
Kassem
Yup I'm still with Ogero and I would never think of changing ISP before the launch of broadband.
vegetaleb
Is it still a pain in the ass to switch isp?

You could try a free vpn like Hotspot Shield or freeVPN--I get around banned ips like that all of the time.
MrClass
heck even the HDSL service gives you a shared IP. I tried HDSL from cyberia, then tried rapidshare and megaupload; still same issue. I heard that sodetel offers public IPs for an additional 20$ per month. I just wish IPv4 addresses reach their limit and force the world to begin using IPv6. Then my shoes can have an IP :P
