xazbrat I have been hearing some rumors from multiple people of a few things. 1: Ogero is to be somehow gone soon. Everyone knowz that they have been the obstacle in our country's quest for broadband and now that they have lost their political cover, the company is going to disappear somehow--hopefully not in another form. This is somehow connected to the liberalization of the telecom industry. 2. Alpha and MTC only signed on for a year, not because of a lack of government, but rather a frustration over the lack of 3G and other broadband progress. My understanding is that if 3G is not implemented by their next renewal period, they will not be renewing. Since revenues from telecom make up a significant part of government revenues, this goes back to the first point. Has anyone heard anything similar to this? I have only heard this from a few friends and I haven't been able to find anything on the web confirming this.
Kassem Yup, I heard that about Ogero as well. Charbel Nahhas already planned to develop the telecom sector so he could then privatize it at a much higher price which will bring in some good cash to the government. Let's hope he gets assigned the Telecom portfolio again or at least someone who would complete what he started. About Alfa and MTC, I do not think those two are going to renew their contracts anymore. They failed miserably over the past few years and it's about time other companies take over. After the privatization of the telecom sector companies like Etisalat and Vodafone will be interested, and will most likely win the contracts and run the sector.
Georges I heard some rumors related to the topic. Mainly about Ogero. Many, here in Batroun, (closely related to Gebran Bassil), are talking about this. And as kassem mentioned, Charbel Nahhas did a good job in this sector. His plans will bring more money to the country, we'll have a better network with better services (3G is definitely coming along with the fast internet we were dreaming of for the past few decades...). I also think that privatizing this sector ain't the best thing we can do. I know that Vodafone and Etisalat can do a great job, but still, the profits will not be invested here. We will be losing more money. Since the infrastructure is definitely ready, all what we need is a green light to start the work. The real work.
forgotten Since we ARE the slowest country concerning internet speeds,it would be the best thing that could ever happen to Lebanon . Ogero that Monster was about to send us back to the stone Age. Vodafone is really good in Germany they offer the best network even better than the one owned by the state. If we get them here our problems are solved they also were pioneers in 3g connectivity. lets hope Guys

Do you have any proof for both statement? I do know some people that work for mtc and another DSL ISP(Having issues BECAUSE of Ogero)... So you can say so.
