Hi
does anyone here have any advice for a fellow nerd (sorry, but I'm too nerdy to be called a geek) on how to be awesome at the bacc exams, like maybe suggesting a book other than Shamel :/
If you're a nerd, then you won't need any advice. Heck, you won't even need to study. You'll ace it all.
For mathematics, buy the Sankari guide. The problems are really good.
When i was at your age i did the following:

-Asked my friends for what guides do they have ,
-My teachers (very important) ,
-Visited some libraries and read their guides (quickly) and purchased the ones i thought they are interesting ,

Its not about the names you need to have many guides as you can and try solving them but start with what your teachers are currently using or what do they suggest , tackle the hard ones at the end and never look at the solution until you try hard.... enough to solve it.
i suggest you try to be awesome on something that actually means anything ...
I'm a general science student and bound for the bacc this year as well.
I totally agree with unforgiven.

I have received my university acceptances and scholarships. Just passing the bacc would suffice. Acing it is only to make your school look good. F them. I'm doing what is best for me not them. Focus on your SATs. Much much more important. And get goo grades the last 2 years at school.
Focus on something that's worth it
Being a nerd is not something you should be proud of. Go live your life and balance between fun and study
Goodluck

And FYI, Im proud of being a nerd :). And sure, it's gonna extra to rock the bacc (I puked a lil when I typed that) but Im a freaking perfectionist I cant help it. I already did my SAT (1440--2130 , sadly I was sick that day or else I couldve gotten over 1500s). And some scholarships like to see your bacc scores. so.... :/
thanks for the advice though about the guides stuff, but does any one have a name (also, anyone know of a scholarship here, theyre alll hidden :/)

BTW, im socio-economic (thats y i said i was too nerdy to be a geek :P)
SE ?
You dont need any extra books...just get SHAMEL and thats it...just to have an idea of how the questions at the exams are.
k
but seriously, does there even exist another book besides shamel
i mean is this such a hard question? just cite a name :P

Shamel is the collection of previous exams throughout the years (unless it has changed since). So when you say you want another book you are being vague because any irher book that is like shamel has the same content. If you're asking for books discussing the subjects then the libraries are filled with books any one you choose is good and members here are not librarians (unless someone is then please help this guy). For any other inquires strip down your sarcastic tone and ask a straight narrowed down question. An example of the latter is "can anyone recommend any math books that discuss the topics faced in the leb bac?".

Enjoy your studies and good luck.

What universities are you applying to ?
My sister had 2190 with 1450/1600 and she received one out of 10 full-tuition merit scholarships to AUB last year.
So I guess you have a good chance of one too this year.
Balamand gives scholarships, Lau gives scholarships and I guess you have a pretty good chance at either one of them. I already received 75% scholarship at Balamand.
But I want to leave this rotten country. So, I'm applying to 2 unis in NY and the top engineering school in France INSA

I have 2030 and 1350 and I'm okay with it. That's with one try and average effort. I could've done so much better if I had studied more but all of this means nothing. Success later on in life and becoming renowned and making a change in the world that truly matters. So yeah again, focus on something that matters.

Btw what school are you in?

Umm about the books: our school uses the al shammel for the previous tests
In class we use Dar al Amal Mastering Mathematics for General Sciences
It's divided into chapters(conics, irrational functions, sequences)
Each chapter is FULL of exercises distinct from thos of the previous exams.

I hope you found that helpful

Btw what are you: General Sciences or Life Sciences?
And what are you planning to do in uni?
jadf24 wroteBtw what are you: General Sciences or Life Sciences?
I think he mentioned he was SE and in all honesty, with all due respect, I wonder why he's caring so much to putting extraordinary effort into all this.

I think the most realistic thing you can do is to study well for SAT since what's done is done (you can't undo your high school grades) and for the lebanese bacc, i think they only care to see you passed it. Focus on SAT because with the SE background, I think you might need it.
GS and LS are the hard stuff in my opinion, ES is simple just go do the test and you'll get jayed.
eh
**** bacc
im gonna do sat again to get a higher score, probably past 750s
sry folks for all this trouble, but wht can i say, im a perfectionist :P
What major do you plan on taking in the uni?
if you were in general sciences, i would have shown you some serious questions that I used to have in school. Our Math/Chemistry/Physics exam questions would make the bacc exams look like a walk in a park. I guess mesa177 knows what I'm talking about.

I'm a general science student and I would be interested not to ace the bacc but hey I'm a big fan of challenging physics and mathematics
hehe beware of what you're asking for. Perhaps I can scan the exam sheet and send them you by email

@MrClass: Oh yeah, the "Kasti Collosal House of Pain", our Math teacher Kasti had a nice little habit that involved getting tricky questions so that we don't only learn how to solve math problems correctly but also analyze the meaning behind the problems and their solutions. He's the kind of teacher you love to hate and hate to love (sort of a bitter-sweet combination). Taught me from seconde to bacc, and he was the reason I went to GS. I became addicted to his exams and quizes, but I especially adored the bonus questions (man I was good at those). As for Chemistry: no, I don't agree, the questions were actually standard and rarley had tricks. Physics, well it depends on the mood of the professor: if Kanj was in the mood of giving out grades, he got text-book questions with little twists; if he was in a foul mood, and found out we weren't studying daily, he becomes vindictive and uses the Lebanese University entrance exams as his muse for his "Rubic-Cube"-like questions.

@jad24: If you truley are a fan of challanging physics and math questions, then you'll enjoy the HHSII exams and most quizes (especially the last term exams where all hell breaks loose and each teacher digs for their best tricky questions in stock). However, I really think you're cut out for Kasti's kind of problems seeing that he re-writes his questions yearly and has the biggest stock of questions out there (he knows that students tend to get previouses from older students, so he never ever gets a question twice unless it was intended: he likes to make sure that we are solving the previouses and the Sankari questions, not the wormy easy ones at the start of each chapter but rather those juicy ones at the end, expecially the ones with no answers written at the end...). They're meaningful, challanging, and sometimes so annoying that they make you want to cry.

Without further ado, here's a taste of the problems (if you're interested, we should really open a new thread concerning this matter, we'll call it the "Kasti Quest"):

I'll give you like two days, then post the answer. Note that the question was given in a 1-hour quiz, so please have the decency to solve it without looking up formulas and time yourself. Finally, enjoy :)
It's almost 12 and I just saw this. Ill be replying tomorrow to everything with the solution ofcourse. Don't post anything. Wait for me :p
