  • PS3 Jailbreak Tutorial using a USB (Kmeaw 3.55)

If you are here, then you are looking for a way to back up your precious PS3 games and run them from the hard disk/ Internal or external.

IF YOU ARE IN Official Firmware 3.56 DO NOT DO ANY OF THIS. YOUR PS3 WILL BRICK

As Exhaler mentioned in his tutorial:

THIS TUTORIAL IS FOR LEARNING PURPOSES ONLY. WE DO NOT CONDONE PIRACY.
Read the note in the end of this post.

Furthermore, If you do not follow this Tutorial to the letter you will BRICK your PS3.


We will need:
- Any PS3 System
- A USB KEY ( FORMATTED AS FAT 32)
DOWNLOAD 1: CFW Kmeaw 3.55 http://www.logic-sunrise.com/telecharger-213946-cfw-kmeaw-355.html
DOWNLOAD 2: Kmeaw backup managers enable.pkg de Kmeaw: http://www.logic-sunrise.com/telecharger-213947-kmeaw-backup-managers-enable-pkg.html
DOWNLOAD 3: MultiMAN v1.15.05 http://www.logic-sunrise.com/telecharger-232743-multiman-v11505.html

IMPORTANT:
You need to be In Official Firmware (OFW) 3.55 to be able to follow this tutorial. IF YOU HAVE IT GO TO STEP1.

IF THIS IS NOT THE CASE:
1- You are at a FW below 3.55 : GO TO PREPARATION 0-A
2- You are at any Custom Firmware (CFW) go to PREPARATION 0-B
3- You have the Official Firmware 3.56... go to www.facebook.com and poke yourself.


PREPARATION 0-A:
We will update the PS3 to an OFW 3.55
- USING A USB
You can download the OFW 3.55 here: http://www.logic-sunrise.com/telecharger-205608-mise-a-jour-officielle-355-playstation-3.html

Place the file on the USB key in this way:KEY USB/PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP

Turn on Ps3 and then
Insert the USB into your PS3 and then go to: System update.
Follow the on screen instructions.
Now you can go to STEP1

- Using the regular Ps3 update system.


Preparation 0-B
We are at a CFW and we need to get to OFW 3.55

Download the OFW 3.55: http://www.logic-sunrise.com/telecharger-205608-mise-a-jour-officielle-355-playstation-3.html

Place the file on the USB key in this way:KEY USB/PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP

Turn on the ps3 in service mode:

How to get access to service mode

1. Make sure the PS3 is turned off,
2. Press and hold the power button on the PS3 it will power on then power off.
3. When it's off press and hold the power button again until you hear two consecutive beeps.
4. It will ask for the controller to be connected via the USB cable,
5. Turn on the controller and you will have access to the menu.

Insert the USB in the Extreme right USB slot
Select system update and follow the On-screen instructions.

Now you can proceed to step 1.

STEP 1 Install CFW KMEAW
Once we have the PS3 on OFW 3.55. we can Install Kmeaw.
To do that: we need to place the downloaded file we got from DOWNLOAD 1
like this on the USB: /PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP

Then we need to go to service mode:
How to get access to service mode

1. Make sure the PS3 is turned off,
2. Press and hold the power button on the PS3 it will power on then power off.
3. When it's off press and hold the power button again until you hear two consecutive beeps.

5. Turn on the controller and you will have access to the menu.

Insert the USB in the Extreme right USB slot
Select system update and follow the On-screen instructions.

Now we have CFW kmeaw installed.

STEP 2 INSTALL BACKUP MANAGER ENABLE (lv2.pkg) OMG OMG OMG Patcher

Place on the root of your USB Key the file lv2.pkg -> DOWNLOAD 2

Insert USB in the extreme right USB slot

Go to games> Install Package Files and select lv2.pkg

When the installation is complete.

Run the file OMG OMG OMG lv2 patcher

You will get a msg "Hello from Russia"

Press x to exit.

STEP 3 INSTALL Multiman MANAGER

PLACE on the root of your USB key the file that you got from DOWNLOAD 3 called
multiMAN ver 1.15.05 BASE [20110211_180000].pkg

Now,

Go to games > Install Package Files and select multiMAN ver 1.15.05 BASE [20110211_180000].pkg

When the installation is complete.

Run Multiman manager.

STEP 4 BACK UP A GAME
TWO choices:
You can backup a game to your internal hard drive
Or you can use an external hard disk

Lets begin by internal hard drive:
Insert A Blu ray disk
Click on copy game and then click YES.
Wait for the backup to complete (IT TAKES TIME ... )
Click X when prompted to do so

You will return to the main screen of Multiman manager:
Remove your blu ray disk so you can see only the backed up game files
Click load game
You will return to the XMB
Insert any other blu ray game
It will load as the game you backed up
Click ON Disk icon
Enjoy!

External HARD drive
You will need to format your hard drive to FAT32 (otherwise it will not work)
PLUG in hard drive to extreme right USB slot
Insert A Blu ray disk
Click on copy game and then click NO.
THEN CLICK YES
Wait for the backup to complete (IT TAKES TIME ... )
Click X when prompted to do so

You will return to the main screen of Multiman manager:
Remove your blu ray disk so you can see only the backed up game files
Click load game
You will return to the XMB
Insert any other blu ray game
It will load as the game you backed up
Click ON Disk icon
Enjoy!
EXTERNAL HARD DISK NOTE:
The fat32 system does not allow files more than 4gb to be written on it.
So while backing up to an external hard disk Multiman manager will split files larger than 4gb to files that are 4 gb of size.
So if it happens to a game you cannot load it Directly from the external hard disk.
It will give you an error message "cannot load cut files" <- don't really remember the message.
So what you need to do is copy back the game from the external hard drive to the internal using Multiman.
DO NOT RE-BACK UP the game on the internal hard drive.

REPEAT FOR MORE GAMES.

NOTE
-More Backup managers are coming out everyday. Like Rogero who has stealth ID.
- It is now impossible to login to PSN using with a jailbroken PS3
- Going from CFW to OFW is possible but there will always be traces on the ps3, showing that this ps3 was jailbroken.

You can go online with the CFW, but it is not recommended since no one knows what rules SONY will go for.

You quit whatever game you are playing, remove the CD from the drive, open Gaia, select the game load it
You return to the XMB
Insert any Blu ray game
Click on CD icon.

(the remove cd from drive step is optional, but do it since sometimes it freezes.)

I understand your concern Kareem. However, this topic does not violate the Etiquette. The use each member does is not our concern. As the poster said, we are only posting this for educational purposes. We are a geek site after all :-)

For instance I don't own a PS3, but personally loved the tutorial.
No no dont get me wrong i am not saying anything about the tutorial it is great but just its place here in the forums. But the thing is many random sites have posted articles about this yet some other pro sites like IGN and GameSpot didnt. Thanks for your reply.

yes they are all over file sharing forums and torrent trackers; but huge in size. I bet you though we will soon be seeing these syrian DVD's filled with the files though

good tutorial, still would never think about doing this, clearly states in the TOS of PSN that if you do anything to your console sony has the right to terminate yout access to PSN, inno heik heik killon shi 5 games i only play on PS3, why pirate huh ?

no - ALL online interactions happen through PSN; unless there is something like xlink kai (that actually works) or any of its variants available for the PS3 then yes - but of course dnt expect it to work so well in Lebanon

its explained above much more accurately and in greater detail but the generic summary is:

once you have your files, either copy paste them to an external HDD, or FTP to the internal HDD of the PS3.
Move games are woking.
"Sports Champions" Runs from External HD
Official Firmware v 3.56 is released.
If your ps3 is Jailbroken, do not update yet.

I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon. Dual layer Blu ray writers are not widely available.
But you never know.
