I wanted to share with you a new experience I've had. As per my previous topic, I was working on setting up my old toshiba laptop to act as a server for all different purposes. I went on a research spree to decide on the smallest linux distro to use as well as a few tests to build an installation without any graphical interface. Throughout my tests I was on Ubuntu's Website and saw the Netbook Edition of Ubuntu. I figured I'd give it a test.
Sadly, I had no spare empty CD to burn the ISO on, until i saw the "Install on a USB" part in the download section. So i downloaded the ISO and once it was done, i dug up an old USB of mine. The website already shows you how to install on a USB. Luckily my old toshiba already had ubuntu 9.04 installed, so creating the USB installation was a mere step 1, 2 and 3.
Once completed (30 seconds or so), i shoved it in my toshiba laptop and was unable to boot. My BIOS was 4 years old, so I updated it. After that, I was able to boot from the USB.Skipping ahead, i figured i'd give it a test on my wife's Netbook, an LG X200.
Result, the new Unity user interface is very very nice. I had no problem whatsoever getting the netbook running ubuntu netbook edition in no time. I was on the internet in less than 10 seconds. The USB Stick is very precious to me now, i can carry it everywhere.
I'm also going to install it on my Toshiba when i have time.
Give it a try you won't be sorry.
