Hello guys ...
I started playing the classic WOW about 5 years ago or so ... didn't have it at home, I used to go to this network called ''Insomnia'' in Adonis. It was pretty much wow players playing together, and the connection was awesome, and as I recall, the owner was with IDM.
Then I stopped playin US, found myself playing the VISP version of the game, latency always sucked even though it's a lebanese server . Anyway, I'm really eager to start playing WOW Cataclysm, And I switched to IDM ... Was It a good decision ? A bad one?
I recently read topics on this site particularly, treating the issue ... And they date from 2009, I was shocked how people were disgusted with IDM... Any new changes ? Is IDM better now? should i transfer to another Adsl provider? which one ? And what package should I be taking, 256kbps/512kbps/1mb etc... Specify please, I need your help fellow geeks, And Lebanese WOW fans !

Hey man
The big problem with idm lately is that it has a very very very high latency...
If you want to play WOW the best package for you is the Sodetel gaming package
jadz
Iam IDM user i play WoW, my latency used to be fine untill 2 weeks ago, when i started getting lag spikes ingame, how ever after 11pm it's all fucked up... if u wanna raid ull have to stop an hour or 2 before ur guildies stops :D, i play as tank and i had a duty to interupt on maloriak, due to high latency i was unable to do it specially on spells that has 2 seconds cast.
Josenad
Ok ... and how much does the gaming package at Sodotel cost?
And Jadz ... u have the 512kbps ? and is it not enough??
thank you :)
Josenad
And one other thing ... :P which do you recommend, I used to play US ... but latency might be better if it's EU or Uk ... which one should I join and what server are you guyz one ? :P
monkey-d-luffy
You should join the EU server because there is a Lebanese guild (:
for more details about the sodetel gaming package try searching this forum
vengeance666
first you should join EU , geographical distance makes latency much more tolerable , lebanese guilds ? you will find many , im in one on twisting nether.
second Sodetel is good , but users are complaining lately on these forums , my experience with other WoW players( guild mates ) , get yourself an ogero 512k ( or 256 is enough ) with a fixed ip and you will have 140 200 ms all day long wich is enough for everything
Josenad
What's fixed IP ?? And is ogero the only one that can fix my IP ?? or can you get IP fix from whoever you're with??
vengeance666
every isp offers fixed ip for about 22$ extra a month ( or fixed proxy the same thing ) , instead of lagging like hell all day ( my case ) while you have 1.2k ms , fixed ip users are playing smoothly on 150ms ! :D i know it's a ripoff of 22$ , but that's lebanon , either you choose to lag or play like a decent human !
Josenad
but the 22 $ isn't available in pre-paid cards ... I took pre-paid service :S I think i should talk to them
jadz
yes iam 512 and it doesnt matter what speed you take, latency is a different thing. and about fixed IP i had no idea what that was untill today >.< i should ask about it! does fixed ip fix the internetspeed after 11 as well? including latency?
vengeance666
with who you got your 512k plan ? and how much latency are you having during daytime without the fixed ip jadz?
jadz
it varies between 300 to 700.
vengeance666
and wich isp ?

Lalalalala, search the forum, get OGERO, lock thread, lalalalala.

256k from IDM with fixed IP ... is enough for leveling up in WOW?? and some pvp like wsg, ab etc ...
Cause i'm goin to start playin again, but i'm goin to start from level 1 .... So is it enough for my first month on EU server ?
I'd appreciate your Advice ....
WiCkEd
I've Been Playing WoTLK before the Cataclysm get Released on Ogero Blink, and the Latency was fine and no Lag. so after Cataclysm I stopped playing WoW.
Josenad
dude this doesn't answer my question :(

256kbps is more than enough for leveling, 5 man dungeons and even 10 man raids in most cases.
It's 25 man raids and world pvp that require the most bandwidth and this is where you might encounter some latency and/or frequent disconnections if you have a slow connection.
Of course the above only applies if the ISP keeps the download/upload speeds stable even during peak times. Meaning if their download speed doesn’t frequently drop as low as 120kbps for example. But even then you might still manage to play the game for normal leveling and 5 man dungeons.
As others have mentioned, latency is in no way related to connection speed. You can have an 8mbps download speed with 1mbps upload and still get the worst latency ever.
It all depends on the ISP (the way they prioritize their traffic: gaming vs browsing or p2p) and of course the route you go through to reach the EU realm you're playing on (fiber vs satellite), optimized paths, etc...

Thank you DG :) I appreciate it (Y) as soon as i hit 70 ... i'll bi hitting Ogero, should've done it when i had the chance 3 months ago, but i never thought i was goin back to WOW ... WOW rocks :D and thanks that's a relief.
And 1 more thing, I think there's a latency fix that world of warcraft offers, and it's for free, does it make any diffrence? anyone tried it? give it a try if you never heard of it and update me please :)
