well assuming on a server with 2 NIC, nic1 and nic2
nic1 is attached to the modem with an ip in the same range as the modem + subnet + GW + DNS of the ISP...
nic2 is configured with IP 192.168.1.200 with the default subnet with no GW and DNS
the DHCP on the server provide an ip in the range 192.168.1.100 -> .199 with GW 192.168.1.200, DNS 192.168.1.200
and the DNS on the server have forwarders the dns provided by the ISP (it's win 2008 R2 server)
now will the user be able to connect to the internet with this configuration ? will the server forward the traffic with no need to install anything else or enable a feature that am not aware of ?
will it work?
Aly
It will work on any desktop PC, it doesnt need to be a Server nor Win 2008 server OS.
BashLogic
you still need to let the os to allow routing, hence enable it. and you still need a nat function.
longbit
@bash, it won;t work without allowing routing and having nat ?
BashLogic
if you segment the network, no
longbit
thank you Bash so i just have to enable routing on the server, i'll choose RIP v2 and let the traffic be forwarded to the ISP modem, that's it right ?
am sorry for all those question but i want to be sure of what am doing.
