I've been solving Rubik's cubes since the beginning of summer 2010. and I've become an addict to it. Clearly evident in my display picture here. I was just interested to see if there were any fellow geeks here who also solve them. Any personal records? What Algorithms do you know? What sized Rubik's cubes to you play with. If anyone cares to share such info, it would be interesting.
This is the most interesting topic i see here since the beginning of 2011. At least, this is something useful and mind-challenging.

Regarding your topic, YES, i recently bought a 4x4 Rubik Cube. Couldn't solve it so far (i tried couple of times, for 30 mins each). It is indeed a mind challenging game.

I'll definitely be looking for some algorithms to solve Rubik Cubes. And hopefully, i'll be able to solve this cube soon.

And btw, have you ever asked yourself, why it's called Rubik. Of course it's named after its inventor Ernő Rubik.

According to GWR 2011, someone solved it in a few seconds blindfolded.
Thanks. The mere challenge behind every time you try to solve it is addictive. Once you get a grip of it and start knowing how to solve it, you get so attached to it. Because even though it's the same algorithms repeated, each step requires quick mental examination and remembrance of the algorithms. It's very challenging. And only a geek can perfect solving it

Personally, I started with a 3x3. I literally spent more than 2 hours every day in the summer practicing the algorithms. Now, I can solve it in under 50 seconds! I can even solve it behind my back (not entirely, but a great portion) !
The mathematics behind it is phenomenal and every geek would appreciate it. Several people have invented their own steps and algorithms to solve it. The beginners method is the cross a.k.a. flower method. I'm still using the basic algorithms, but hey 50 seconds is enough for me.

Then there's speed cubing(solving a cube in under 20 seconds!). That needs super-memory and super-thinking to be able memorize a lottt of algorithms and be able to put them to work quickly.

I advise you to start with a 3x3. It's much easier for a beginner. Simpler algorithms and simpler cubes for a simple player. Once you become good at it, you can switch to advanced mode. :P
Plus, google the flower or cross method for solving a rubik's cube and learn it. You can finish it in under 5 minutes from the first time just by following the steps.

The thing is I can't find a decent Rubik's Cube around here. All I find are the 5,000 - 10,000 models that easily brake. From where did you get yours?

And using 1 hand only. YouTube that man! You won't believe it until you see it.
I've been searching for one, but couldn't find so i ended up making a java game simulating it , but it is not fun playing it on the computer (especially that the one i made is awful when it comes to controls :P) so where can i find it ?

If it happens that you're living near Jbeil, you can find one at Charcuterie Aoun - Halat Highway, in the toys section.

They have 2 sizes, 3x3 cubes (5000 L.L each) and 4x4 cubes (15.000 L.L.) each.
Tigerheart.Hackers wroteJust out of curiosity, jadf24, what is your personal record?
Like I've said before I can do it under 50 seconds. My personal record is 48 seconds. And I never beat it. Probably because I'm still using the basic algorithms to solve it and I haven't switched to the more advanced and faster algorithms.
Behind my back I was able to finish it in 1 minute, 12 second or 1 min, 15 seconds I can't remember exactly.

You?

hello guys

my record in 3x3 is 28 seconds (not official)
my average is 41 seconds

i can solve 2x2 and 4x4 as well

are there competitions or meetups in lebanon soon?

regards
The only time I've solved one was by removing the stickers and rearranging them in the right place :P lol

Never really bothered to look into any of its algorithms or such.

There was another one who solved it in few seconds using his feet. But they later on showed the trick. It was on reverse lol. They got a solved cubic, and what the guy did was mess it up with his feet, and later on reverse the recording. Just to make it look more realistic, in the background you see a person walking forward, when they were filming, he was actually walking backwards. lol
