PS3 Jailbreak Tutorial using iPod 5.5G for educational purposes only :p

first of all i would like to thank santa (i.e: myself) for getting me a PS3 :) and thanks to all the wonderful/genuises people

who created these wonderful files
below is a guide to how to jailbreak a PS3 using iPod 5.5G.
i would like to point out that there are many guides out there just google them.

NOTE: each time you want to run/install a package you must first jailbreak the PS3

I DO NOT TAKE RESPONSIBLITY IF YOUR PS3 GETS DESTROYED IN ANY WAY AND THESE FILES ARE NOT DONE BY ME

Things you need:
1. PS3 (duh!) firmware 3.41
2. iPod 5.5G
3. regular USB (flash memory, usb, ..etc)
4. Internet connection
5. patience :)

Guide:
Installing Rockbox on iPod 5.5G:
1. Connect iPod 5.5G to PC
2. download RockBox
3. extract the .rockbox folder to the root of the ipod
4. Download the following file: ipl.rar
5. Unzip the file somewhere easy to remember
6. Open up CMD.
7. browse to where you extraced the ipl folder
8. type in the following, ipodpatcher -ab loader.bin
11. Let the installation do its thing, there will be another black window that opens, it should close automatically.
12. download this file psgroove.rar
13. extract it to the root of your ipod drive

Packages:
download these packages to a regular USB and put the .pkg files in the root of the USB

PS3 Jailbreaking:
1. shutdown the PS3 and and unplug it from the electricity
2. connect your ipod to the first usb port on the right
3. turn on the ipod
4. you should see a menu which allows you to select different options
5. select Hermes v4B
6. quickly turn on the PS3 and press the eject button
7. if all went well the PS3 will take more time than usual to boot and you will have two extra options in XMB
8. insert the regular USB in the second free usb port
9. go to install packages in the XMB
10. install the packages downloaded from above :):)

Backup a game using multiMAN (my favourite):
1. run multiMAN from the XMB
2. insert blu-ray game into the driver
3. copy the game to internal HDD and wait
4. after copying finishes you can play the game without the blu-ray :):):)

Note: not all games work without blu-ray. go [url=ttp://www.psjcl.com]here[/url] to check whether a game works or not with/without disk

not yet, waiting till its more stable, they are reports of PS3 getting bricked
Yea me neither ... Give it a couple of months something stable is bound to show up ... Btw are psn games hacked already ?

I did mine yesterday. Using the kmeaw 3.55 technique
It worked like a charm.
that's great, are you having any problems with playing backed up games??
I only had time to test on one game UFC 2010 ( Backed up on Internal Hard Disk). It loaded perfectly.

I used the Back up Manager Multiman. Tonight I'm going to install GAIA and back up - Yakuza 3, blood stone 007, and Vanquish on an External Hard Disk.

I'll let you know how it goes.
maybe after your done i can borrow from you yakuza 3 :), and maybe i'll install the CFW on my PS3
GAIA worked.

I was able to backup and play Yakuza 3 and Blood Stone directly from the hard disk.

Vanquish contained files more than 4gb. So i had to copy it back from the external to the internal to play it.

I had a few black screens while launching the Manager, but never when playing the games.

for those who are interested in installing a CFW (custom firmware) follow this guide
you only need a regular USB to copy the update file to the PS3.

if i have time this weekend i will post a tutorial on how to do it.
Before Installing Waninkoko, know this:
- 90% of PS3 FAT Bricked
- Ps3 Slim are ± working

Make sure to check your model number: (the sticker in the back of the PS3)
&
Check wikipedia for the NAND of your model,
If it is 256mb then Waninkoko will brick your ps3.

If you still want to jailbreak your ps3. Go for Kmeaw 3.55 technique.
With the Kmeaw There was NO bricking reported.

Poll to illustrate the situation:
Is there any available h4x that doesn't joepardize online gaming ?
There are Backup Managers that use Stealth.
Like: Rogero Manager 7.9a : Support CFW 3.55 & Stealth mode

There are also packages like:
Wipe History v2. This package will erase your logs of played games. That means when online the ps3 cannot communicate them to Sony.

EraseMe v1.1 : This is better than wipe history v2, This package will erase the content of the logs and then fill them with a list of games of your choice ;) You need to edit some files.

No one can Guarantee that these tools will protect you at a 100%, probably Sony has other ways to detect players with CFW online.
Sony did not yet react to online players with CFW.
