  • Internet Explorer won't display page

Hey
Everytime I click on a link to download anything on Internet Explorer, I get the "Internet Explorer can't display the web page" message. Is there any way to fix this? does it only happen with Internet Explorer?
I don't have any other browser on my laptop so I can't check myself.
Thanks in advance

Download another browser, from another computer if necessary, install it and forget about Internet Explorer.
I recommend Chrome or Firefox.
What version of IE do you have ?
Are the links you're opening direct HTTP links ?
What other browser did you test the links on ? (You said that it only happens with IE)
What is your operating system ?
Would copy/pasting the link into IE's address bar fix the issue ?
When you say click on a link, you mean a link on a website ? Or for example a link from a msn conversation?

The more you get specific in your answers the faster some one can help you.
I have IE 8
Yes I think so
I didn't test it on any other Browser as i currently have no access to any other and well I need my download quota for other things
OS is Windows Vista
No, nothing works, even tries saving target as
On a website, I'm currently looking for a media player that can play .mkv format
I'll try my best to get hold of another browser tomorrow and post if the problem is also on other browsers
Chrome is only about 30 MB.
It's probably something with a download manager that you installed or something like that. Try uninstalling any IE addons (search bar w maba3ref shou) and download manager that you installed.
And yes, Chrome is 30MB so please try that or Firefox (which is even smaller), it's much easier then trying to fix IE, if that's possible at all.
Also I would recommend installing antivirus and antispyware and doing a scan. I use Avira for antivirus, it's free.
I usually don't call IE an web browser. It's just sucks.

So yes as they told you, install Chrome or Firefox.
Perhaps a wrong proxy setting? Make sure you turn off proxy in the IE browser.
In the IE browser menu, click tools, then internet options. in the new window, click the connections tab, then click the LAN settings button. Make sure the proxy server checkbox is off. a wrong proxy setting may stop ie from connecting to the internet.
Direct HTTP links are just simply normal links in the form of http://www.downloadsource.com/file.rar
On a website, I'm currently looking for a media player that can play .mkv format
http://www.filehippo.com/download_kmplayer/ This is a suitable player. The website is very reliable so if you can't download from there we can know that the problem is on your end.

Try the following, open the start menu and search for "no add-ons" you should find a shortcut to open internet explorer without any add-ons. See if that fixes your problem.
Thank you all for the help
I tried uninstalling my download manager and yes, it was the problem. I never knew a download manager could cause such problems, I guess you learn new things everyday.
Also thanks for the links
You're welcome :) glad it was easy to fix.
