  • Disk Management - yet another hats off for windows 7

So it has been more than year since i have bought my latest laptop an i7 hp dv6 and i am loving, and hey i have not formatted it yet, it stills runs windows 7 fast and smooth.

Anyway, i was upgrading my norton internet security to version 18(2011), so it crashed my windows/pc, anyway i was able to recover by booting to safe mode, so that reminded me that i need to create a separate partition for my libraries(music/videos/ebooks/etc)

so while i was searching for a program to create a new logical drive from my existing drive c, i was pleasantly surprised that windows 7 is packed with the right tool for the job.

type in diskmgmt.msc and be pleasantly surprised too if you weren't already (:
* Method 1 - Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Administrative Tools. Double click Computer Management and then click Disk Management on the left i think, i forgot. ( currently on mac )

* Method 2 - Administrative Tools > Computer Management and then click Disk Management

* Method 3 - Click Start > Run and type diskmgmt.msc.
i'm currently on my windows xp desktop , and i'm too lazy to go try it on my laptop , i have windows 7 home premium there , so the question is can i do the opposite thing ??? since like you guys said i can take "some GBs" from drive C for example to create a different partition , can i merge separate partitions in one ?? i have drive C 160gb , and 3 other partitions merging from 30gb to 70gb each one , is it possible to unite them all in one single partition ?

vengeance666 wroteno i want to do it on my laptop , i have windows 7 there
Yes you can merge seperate partitions in 1.
For example if you shrinked 10 gb out of Drive C and 10 Gb from drive D. You can then merge the Unallocated spaces to creat a new partition.
@Proners: One additional feature built into Disk Management tool in Windows is the VHD (Virtual Hard Disk).

diskmgmt.msc --> Action --> Create VHD :)
