The other day, my wife comes home with an LG Netbook and asked me to setup the internet for her. I pick up this Netbook and found it rather cool. It comes with Windows 7 Starter and whatnot and just "does the job". The very next morning while i was having my coffee i figured I'd check my mail using this Netbook.

What happened was, instead of pressing the "Power button" I pressed a button that had the label "S-On". Instantly the netbook powered on and not 10 seconds afterwards i was logged in to an operating system that had a linuxy feel to it.

Apparently what was installed is the Splashtop OS, previously known as DeviceVM i believe. I figured i'd install it on my other laptop for a quick test and here's what i witnessed:

P.S.: All through windows.

1- Downloaded Installer : 10mb
2- Installer downloaded the OS : 220mb
3- Installer installed the OS
4- Reboot, get an OS choice, select Spashtop
5- Not 10 seconds after that, the browser was already open ready to take action.

It's free and best of all, Open Source.

Does anyone have any experience with Splashtop OS?
My Sony Vaio has a quick start too using a button called "web" , it is Splashtop OS , it is very fast and usefull in quicksearches or check-mails :)
Only the following devices are currently supported:

• HP Mini 110
• Compaq Mini CQ10
• HP Mini 210
• HP Pavilion dm4
• HP Pavilion dv4
• HP Pavilion dv5
• HP Pavilion dv6
• HP Pavilion dv7

But they are saying that you can still try it even if your device is not supported.

I am going to try it on my brand new Acer laptop and report back.

It works fine on my Acer AS5742. Wifi, screen resolution, sound, and flash all work amazingly.

xterm, were you able to install any extensions in Chromium? It kept telling me I can only save to a USB which makes sense, but I want to know if you installed any extensions.

Thanks.

Not a problem. Overall, the OS is very handy for quick access to the Internet.

Thanks for sharing.
