  • Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Coming Soon!

Hey everyone, today Scott Hanselman announced, in his blog, that some of the current BETA projects will be released as final releases mid-January. While VS2010 SP1 (which is still in BETA right now) will be released later this spring. For more details read his blog post here.
i hate that i am liking a microsoft product
but VS2010 is awesome
VS is the single most amazing tool. Why would you hate liking it? :-)

(Ironically, I preferred 2k8)
Visual Studio is really the best IDE

using it since 2002, would be awesome if the build in PHP support
well at work i have to use microsoft, however i am an enemy of microsoft :P

but i gotta admit, VS has been improving since 2005 till now its come a long way
back on 2008 i was building a silverlight application but had to use Expression Blend to create the GUI
HOWEVER in 2010 there is no need for such a thing anymore... makes my work easier

ofcourse also keeping in mind the other more important advantages and improvments, am just saying the first think tha came to my mind
by the way ... i don't like where silverlight is going, its guna die off ... soon ... EPICALLY ...

I think WebMatrix has PHP support. But it's still a very young product. I assume there are many improvements/features that are yet to come :)

@Zusynoid-x: What's wrong with Silverlight? I've never used it so I do not know much about it. But I'm planning to get into it (probably next month). Oh and please use a spelling/grammar checker before posting, makes it easier for us to read your posts. (I do not mean that in an offensive way, just a friendly request :) ).
no offense taken mate :) but it's just one word ... :P "improvements" good now ?
i have one excuse ... i have ADD :P
so now i am REALLY typing slow and NOT DOING ANYTHING ELSE in the meantime :P

anyway back on subject ... its good for light, commercial websites
but the way they are displaying it now, like for using it in business applications.
it's going to fail unless used with MFE and PRISM frameworks

( special frameworks to divided it up into smaller pieces so it won't take forever to load ) ... and it is not doing to good

at least that is my personal opinion

ps: DAMN this took too long

EDITED:
doing too good ***
it's *******

see :P

OH! right ... Microsoft ...
Beta Versions. I can't see any Beta word here... Am i mistaken or what ?!

I got this version for FREE from the MSDN alliance program while studying at the university of Oklahoma in the U.S.
Not that it's licensed to Microsoft

You missed the "SP1" word in the subject.

You make it sound as Microsoft is the only company that charges for products.

Honestly, no it wouldn't. I do not want to pollute Visual Studio with PHP support. I understand where you're coming from, but PHP is not in any way an inhabitant of the Microsoft environment. There would probably be dozens if not hundreds more suitable applications for PHP.
Zusynoid-x wroteits guna die off ... soon ... EPICALLY ...
I rather doubt it. It's obvious that there will be a major change when browsers with html5 support get more widely use, but will Silverlight really go away?

You probably already know this or maybe you don't, but Silverlight used to be called WPF/E, which means WPF Everywhere. Given that Microsoft has shifted its efforts entirely to WPF, any developer with WPF knowledge will subsequently have covered over 80% of the knowledge he would need for building Silverlight applications. It's quite similar in a way to how Flex works for Adobe with Adobe Air.

Ultimately i foresee something happening, something extravagant that might change the entire aspect of the web in all technologies. If you are familiar to how GWT works, you'd probably understand what I mean.

Flash/Flex and Silverlight would ultimately become developer platforms that allow the developer to build rich and interactive web front-ends with their favorite technologies and compile into html5(js).

There's already several technologies that are "similar" to GWT but just don't quite cut it. Script# being an example for .NET Developers.

Edit: HTML has a weak specification, even with html5 it doesn't provide nearly enough flexibility with a minimal amount of effort to achieve a certain "complex" functionality. JQuery Templates fix part of the problem.

Oh yes, sorry.

Indeed, Zusynoid-x, please take a look at Adobe's CS5 Suite... And compare the prices. :D
corporations ... what more can i say

xterm, i can see that apparently you are an IN-DEEP microsoft guy
yea i know about WPF/E ... because i used it
and i KNOW silverlight will die off ... BECAUSE am using it ... and i know business applications because it is my job to know them
anyway, this argument has nothing to do with the thread :) but either way time will tell

ps xterm , everyone can act pretentious anytime they want :P

No, I'm just not biased to a certain company, technology or platform and i never follow the herd. I make my own assumptions based on my daily research. When Microsoft does something bad, I'll be the first to say it, though with my experience in several developer tools, IDEs, text editor and the lot, i can safely say that VS exceeds any environment out there (I'm being pretentious now).

I'm not totally sure how you using it, makes you know that it will die off :)

The fact that it complements WPF through providing a web aspect of the technology and its extreme usage in media centric websites is enough for me to know that it will remain alive. Probably not boost, but definitely not die.
ps xterm , everyone can act pretentious anytime they want :P
That is your prerogative :-)

I'm not here to convince you, I'm just stating what i know. If you find that I erred in anything, by all means, correct me. (Somewhat related, you might want to read my signature)
what do you know ... yet another pretentious reply :P

back to the subject

i think the IIS Express Support is the best thing about SP1
of course with all the fixes (read shitloads of bugs)

and why the "OH! right ... Microsoft ..."

if its not made by them :D
