Well I saw this in my own eyes... the solution was always here... I will only give you a hint..
To be among the select people you need to have relatives in Europe...
Here is the solution:
Have your relative, lets say he is in France, find all the internet over satellite providers. Find the ones that provide service on hotbird. Ask your relative to subscribe with them; the average price is 50 euros (same as for dsl here but much faster with NO bandwidth limits).
Have him when he comes to Lebanon only get you the LNB and the modem.. no need to get the whole dish you can get one here for cheap.
Just point your dish on hotbird using the LNB that you just received, connect the modem and enjoy FREEDOM!
...unfortunately our government always pushes us to find alternative ways to get our services from outside Lebanon... They just lack creative thinking and don't see beyond the tip of their nose...
MSD
Umm, what about upload?
melachi
Upload :) ... lol these days are over my friend the new LNB's are send/receive..
Read this:

Xsever
MSD meant by "upload" that it is illegal in Lebanon to upload data using a satellite connection.
But then again, we are in Lebanon. Who cares about "illegal"? :D
MSD
So the LNB would also send data through the dish? If so, great, how much would hte LNB cost and what does it take to get it setup?
Also, there is still the issue of the legality of such a thing in Lebanon, last I heard, it was illegal to upload without going through OGERO for reasons supposedly related to national security. I might be wrong though.
EDIT: XServer posted before me about the legal issues.
melachi
I'm sure this whole process is not legal.. but to your point, the Tv stations you are getting from your local cable guy are not legal either.. yet nobody cares!
J4D
Seems like a gr8 solution ! will investigate into this !
melachi
I am not sure about the initial cost many companies offer different rates... however, since this is now a national security issue.. well lets leave the subject here then.. : ).. and enjoy ogero at 512KBPS lol.. and a limit of 4 GB per month...
MSD
I guess there is still also the issue of latency 400+ ms ping

If you get someone knocking on your door soon, hide!!! They are coming for you...
LOL
But really, I think this is very illegal where you could be charged with something close to a so called "treason" unless my intel is flawed.
melachi
Latency for satellite Internet connection is typically 500-600ms, compared to 250-400 on Ogero's DSL thats using

That is a considerable difference especially for online gaming.

I think you mean no volume limit.

1)It is not useful for online gaming, latency is 500-600ms
2)You need to find way to pass customs. You cannot deliver most probably modem over DHL, someone must bring it with him. If customs will catch u receiving VSAT modem - you will have some troubles. Real troubles.
3)512K is NOT unlimited. Price is similar or a bit cheaper than Ogero. There is FUP and caps. Same prices as in Europe probably you will not get, since coverage zone for Europe usually is not reaching Lebanon.
4)Dish will look different with TX/RX "LNB", it is difficult to detect it from far, but someone can see it and report to police. Hide it from street and bad neighbours.
5)Yes, it can bypass any blocks imposed by local providers. Some of providers in EU install with this system 3play system, Phone, TV, and internet. So you can have european phone number.

it actualy could go up to 2 mbps.. i meant there are no data download limits...
nuclearcat
melachi - on satellite there is ALWAYS limits on end-user accounts
Dedicated 1Mbps on satellite cost around $2000-$2200 on small dish, if not more this days.
Exception is Ka-band, but it's not available for Leb. Yet.

i think that a 2-way subscription costs more than 50 euro usually,in addition, 2-way system is little expensive.
any confirmation ?

hmm well there's a DvD shop under my house and I asked the manager from who he gets the internet, and he said "by ourselves" I asked how is this and he said something similar to what OP said, that they know someone in Cyprus and get the internet from there via Satellite or something like that

Just a question, I have a friend who has an ISP company outside of Lebanon, He tried to connect me to his server but it won't work.
Does Lebanon allow external ISPs ? or I must get a connection from any of the lebanese ISPs ?
