Hi all,
Looks like Ogero started the VOIP block once again... THANK YOU MR MINISTER FOR THIS CHRISTMAS GIFT!
here are simple solutions you may use:
SKYPE:
Problem:
Skype connects but when you dial a skype out number or receive a skype in call it gets distorted.
Solution:
Hotspot sheild is your answer, just install hotspot sheild connect and open skype. Its FREE : ) ..
Magic Jack:
Problem:
Does not allow you to connect to their server.
Solution:
HSS (Hotspot sheild) does not allow connections either, in this case you can also get any FREE VPN solution. Just google FREE VPN and you should get a huge list, pick any free or paid one, install it, connect, then plug in your MJ.
VONAGE/VOIP solutions that does not require a PC:
Problem:
Does not connect
Solution:
There are many but here is a good permanent solution: ( do not do this unless you know what you are doing).
1.First go to
www.dd-wrt.com read about it and under models find a router that is compatible with the dd-wrt software.
2.The most common one is Linksys WRT-54G
3.Download the VPN version of DD-WRT that is compatible with your router.
4.Login to your router through the web interface and under the admin tab you can flash your router the the DD-WRT file you downloaded.
5.go strongvpn.com or any other vpn solution that you find on google and that is compatible with DD-WRT.
6. Buy an account.
7.follow the settings on strongvpn.com to setup your router with the server user name and pass.
8.make sure this router is connected to your OGERO modem and give it 5 minutes to connect after it restarts.
9.on any pc connect to this router and check your IP to make sure that you now have a US or European IP.
10. Once you are sure that the router is connected to the VPN server, plug in your vonage device and voila! back to normal.
Depending on the server and price you pay you will get the speed and the voice quality desired.. don’t be cheap!
the $3 and $5 VPN's per month will probably not do the job you need, research and ask for free trials before you choose a service.
Please note that all the above steps are TOTALY LEGAL>>>> there is nothing illegal about connecting to a VPN server, coorporates, banks and local businesses uses VPN on daily basis.
Now connecting your VOIP to your VPN.. well I leave this up to you : )...
