I am on a regular DSL 128k from IDM. According to them, I am not eligible for unlimited/double speed @ night which is fine, how much download can you get with 128/256.

But now I am facing larger problems, I need a file from a friend, the file is around 10MB so he cannot attach it via email, he tried uploading it to several free file hosts (rapidshare, filesonic, uploading.com, ...) we tried everything! Every time I try to download I get either download limit exceeded or IP already downloading a file.
I know that I do not have a dedicated IP but could I be sharing the same IP with 50 other people who are all downloading and abusing?
Try mediafire.com
There aren't IP limitations for that site.
I finally managed to get the file :D
Internet is very hectic in lebanon.
I think many people are ready to leave the country just to get the taste of a 20mbit connection!
selling nation and home for 20 Mbps... pretty cheap
what nation and home?
This country just means family and friends to me. It is neither a nation nor a home I can be proud of.
nuclearcat wroteselling nation and home for 20 Mbps... pretty cheap
In Lebanon 20 Mbps would probably cost more than what I pay for home (rent). :D
When in my country prices was even more, and neighbor countries had better internet, i go to work in ISP. That ISP was charitable internet foundation (www.iuf.net).
I got better internet for my own activity, got a job, and also helped foundation, who was giving first unlimited internet in the city, additionally it was _free_ for disabled people and schools. I didn't did that because i was so good person, this is just was interesting for me. For me was primary in my life my ideas, and not a money.
Just curious, what others did to improve things here?
Except buying gadgets (iphones, etc), cars and discussing politics?
I know in lebgeeks few persons did ALREADY something good, but i will be happy more young people doing so (and not just talking).
I'm foreigner, and if i will put my nose in things here - i will be just kicked out of country. So ur turn guys, to change ur own country.

I can understand what you mean. I'm a foreigner too. Unfortunately in Lebanon, political corruption means no one wants a solution that will benefit the whole country. Economical corruption means private companies who know better don't actually care. Greed plays a huge role in how the lebanese market operates. Terra can offer a lot better plans at same prices but they basically give you the minimal to stay competitive against other ISPs. Most ISPs do similar things.

From where are you?
btw in Lebanon you will be kicked out even if you are not a foreigner. Welcome to the third world ruled by ignorance and corruption :)
As for changing things, you are right, no one is actually doing anything, and if they were it would be for personal gain or political interest. As for me, I gave up on this a long time ago.

Almost all ISP's suffering this days and doing loss, instead of profit. (I didn't say that about VISP, since VISP built some important parts of infrastracture on FOSS solutions.)

Don't blame corruption. We had it too... just keep doing smth good, not for ur benefit only, guys.
Don't expect also to change whole country :-) To do so you need at least thousand of talented people together.

Don't expect a revolution of integrity in Lebanon, nuclearcat. Also talented people don't always have funding to make ground breaking projects.
