Japanese Anime

Okay, ever since rahmu changed his avatar and I've been trying to guess who the blonde dude with gun is (I think he's a character in Dragon Ball Z).

That question made me wonder:
1) why exactly do most geeks seem attracted to watch japanese anime (and it has to be spoken japanese with english subtitles otherwise it's no fun)?
2) who of the LebGeek community enjoys japanese anime? what did you watch so far if so?
2) what is the ultimite japanese anime ever?

I personally have watched Claymore (my first), Full Metal Alchemist, Chrono Crusade, GTO (it was boring, didn't bother to watch more than a few episodes), Fate Stay Night, Kaze No Stigma, Zombie Loan, Death Note, and Bleach (lately the author has been dragging the story so I stopped altogether, but it was fantastic when it began).

My favorites are Death Note (Light is ammazing and L is an interesting character) and Bleach.

I mainly read mangas, but I watched some animes too. Way too numerous to share. ]

I got into them at an early age, way before I turned geek (I'm a late bloomer who didn't know shit about fuck when it comes to computers until I turned 20). So I don't really understand the relationship between anime and computers (although I validate it, I see it everywhere around me).

Why in Japanese? I don't know about the rest, but for me I hate seeing anything dubbed. Be it movies, games, cartoons, ...
Unfortunately, original sounding games with english subtitles are not always available. It's not the case for anime thankfully.

Latest anime I've been watching: Hellsing, Katsuo and Cowboy Beebop. Will be starting Evangelion soon.

As of the character of my avatar ... well let's see if anyone recognizes it :-)

PS: I absolutely adored GTO. But then again, it's a boys' thing. Did you watch City Hunter?

Personally, i've been questioning myself the same thing for a while now, that character pointing at me just freaks me out xD, I guess it does give Rahmu's posts a certain "I'm watching you" characteristic =p.
Edit: I miss the goat already.

1) Anime is probably the best cartoon entertainment available out there.
Not only does the threshold of any anime unfold a very interesting plot, but as you watch more episodes you become, in a way attached to the characters as you evaluate their personalities and try to figure what all the foreshadowings imply; that's when the curiosity kicks in and you just have to jump to the next episode ^^.
The spoken japanese facilitates the authenticity and originality of the anime. If you were to watch the original episode, then an english dubbed version of it, you'd notice that the most intense / emotional moments are best expressed in the japanese version; besides, in a dubbed version you wouldn't be able to match what they were saying to the motion of their lips -.o.

2) *Raises hand* Until now i've seen Claymore, Full Metal Alchemist, Death Note, Bleach (good beginning, too many fillers, got bored ), Naruto (Great story but also a -bit- too long =p), Basilisk, Full Metal Panic (loved it), Dragon Ball, Z, and GT (meh), Haruhi Suzumiya (a bit too *cute*)... And.. Uhhm... I could have sworn there were 3 more from my brevet days when I used to wake up early on saturdays just to watch anime before getting to school... Buut, my memory doesn't serve me well.

3) My favourites are definitely Death Note (The whole principle of killing someone by simple writing his / her name in a notebook really intrigued me, and L's approach to solving the case was interesting, in addition to how he loves to sit, and his eating habits (reminded me of myself =p), and bleach (I can't stop myself from watching how Ichigo manages to get himself out of every single pridicament, and an interesting story backed up by many unique characters with different abilities ), and Full Metal Panic (The intense machine fights in addition to several side stories going on at the same time make it fun to watch).

there are a lot of good anime out there . i can t really choose which is best but i like mostly Hayao Miyazaki films the best of them is princess Mononoke and also cowboy bebop movie and its series , akira , naruto ( way to much filers ) , evangelion ( lame ending the writer had brake down or something during the ending ), ergo proxy , ghost in the shell , samurai x ( film). the most important thing is to watch them in japanese because the dubbed versions are really crappy there is no character and emotions in the english voices.

All anime who had a game tie-in i know about, other than that i dont really know the others.
But i still remember when i was like 7 years old i used to watch on a weird TV channel i think Cyprus the old Dragon Ball.

It's entertaining. Even "non geeks" with a a taste in cinema/movies/series would appreciate stuff like Death Note.

As for the spoken Japanese, it's because Japanese voice actors are damn good, and give it their all when voicing their characters. As opposed to English dubs who are mostly voiced by fifth tier actors who do their job half assedly and "ma bi 3ishoua".

It's been more than a year I haven't watched anything, though. I gotta continue Bleach sometime, though.

Bleach was good until like episodes. 170-180 then i stopped watching it.

lol yeah seriously, grown ups watching cartoons. hehe kidding. Everyone has his own crazy mind. I, for instance, spend most of my weekend playing warcraft 3 Dota on garena. Seriously, I get intense from that game :)

man i am sorry for you who look at cartoons as just for children this could be said for games and everyone of you play games. Japanese anime have more depth and creativity more than anything american movies or series can dish out from character development to the plot , art style and more...

Seint Seiya is the best of them all.

Dude when you watch something serious like Death Note you'll realize how epic J Anime is, I remember where I used to spend countless hours watching the series, truly inspiring stories and some are extremely underrated !!

-English Dubbed Anime kinda ruins it for me and sounds lame, here's a proof ..
