kareem_nasser wroteThis is nice feature but also i would like a revamped faster UI in-game.
My thoughts exactly. With games taking more and more processing power from the PS3, the in-game XMB is on the verge of being useless. Case in point, Fallout New Vegas and Call of Duty Black Ops. Whenever I get a message it'll take a lot of time for me to eventually get to the message and read it. The in-game is horrendously slow and the icons take ages to load out making it basically unusable.
The problem with Sony is that they've been releasing useless updates over the past year. Nothing from the past year has really changed my experience with the PS3. They either continuously add region specific features (hulu, netflix, etc...) or add useless features like the video editor and photo gallery (i mean, WTH, whenever I want to edit a video or look at a picture, I have my laptop to do that; much more easier to use and many more options to choose from).
Another thing that also makes me really frustrated is the way the XMB is built. Its simple but at the same time its really frustrating; for example, whenever I want to check a message using the regular XMB, I have to press triangle and then scroll down and press X. Why do I have to go through all this button pressing to check a simple message. The XMB should have a revamp of some sort or a complete overhaul.
Yet another weird feature is the lame updates. Why the hell can't I download system and game updates in the background? The freaking thing has 7 SPEs. Can't it handle background downloads and installs???? And why are the system updates so huge. If they do change a feature or add a couple, why do I have to download the whole OS again? Why can't I just download these new features as normal updates?
Continuing my rant is the web browser and Skype availability. The web browser is rubbish and hangs more often than not. And why didn't they built a Skype app for the PS3 is anybody's guess. They have a Skype app for the PSP so why don't they include one for the PS3.
Hmmmmm? What else?
Syncing trophies ---- Please make the thing automatic. I mean, how much traffic does the thing consume for it to take that long to sync a single trophy??? And don't get me started on the "Compare trophies feature": it takes ages to load out as if you're downloading a huge file off the net (it is also slow using high speed connections).
Voice messages --- Why can't I send a voice message? This is something very basic and has been around since the old ages of MMS on cellphones; let alone it existed a decade ago and more on the email.
Avatars ----- LOL..... I just laugh at what the PS3 calls avatars when you look at the Xbox 360's avatars. You can't even make the comparison.
In- game music ----- sometimes I'd like to listen to music during my multiplayer matches. Why can't I do that? Which takes to me to another problem of how the PS3's OS was built with none of these ideas in mind. They continuously add them but don't force developers to implement and give them the choice which is lame in my opinion.
Power on the USB when the PS3 is in standby mode ----- no comment.....
Finally, why does it sign off whenever I watch a DVD or play PS1 games?
Its really weird for such a powerful and capable system to have such a weak OS that doesn't really take advantage of its processing power and all its available options.
For a system that has been released 4 years ago, its about time they injected something fresh into it.
End of rant......
