Hello guys,
This is probably a little bit of hijack of rahmu's competitions.
As I am incapable of committing to correcting the received code, neither help you devotedly, though I may be occasionally answering questions about the competition problems.
I am hunting for talent (talent is not measured in years of experience), so if there's mutual interest, do send your answers to my personal email {arithma87##$$}/hot./mail (of course in addition to sending the solutions to rahmu)
I am planning on something bigger along the broader lines of our competition and exercises. Stay tuned
I hope that's ok with everyone :)

I didn't understand anything from your post. care to elaborate more ?

Yeah, I shouldn't post at work when am already all that tired.
Here's what I meant:
Rahmu is running a programming competition. He first started with posting exercises and I followed suit and posted some other exercises. Then someone suggested that we have a programming competition. And there rahmu went. I am not interested in correcting these exercises and never was with the idea but I want access to the code.
I am interested in the local talent, software development wise. My employer would love to recruit good talent. I could hook good talent with good employers. Most importantly, having this code will allow me to help you with problems you get or to even "correct" it, on occasion.
I don't have the audacity to ask for the exercises without your consent from rahmu, so here I am asking for a preview.
Perhaps to make it fair to everyone, all the code should be posted after each competition ends. The community should work out the solution by itself. No special code previews are necessary then.
In merit, I believe we should be working on exercises and discussions rather than competing and burning out poor old rahmu. Additionally, I don't think Rahmu has all the expertise (no body on this forum has) to give complete advice on algorithms and software problems. If it's necessary to measure one's self, why not compete on one of the many public global platforms (topcoder for one).
That's my take on the subject:
- Less organization overhead
- Less centralization of expertise authority
- More Discussions and Brainstorming.
I hope that's a bit clearer.

Once I get my head around the C language, data structures, linked lists... etc. I will start participating in the exercises and the competition. The point of the competition is not really "competing" against eachother (I do not really care if I win or lose), it's just yet another way to improve my programming skills (and other skills as well such as time management since there's a deadline).

I Prefer going back to the old Exercises rather than the Competition thing. This will increase the activity in the programming section and we can use each other's code & algorithms to implement ours -- Perhaps in a different language or in an improved manner.
In other words, Our Code should remain posted here on the web. and NOT sent to someone's email.
And regarding the competitions, in case Rahmu continued to post new ones, I agree with you on publishing all the written code after each competition, but i don't think that the other part of your suggestion will work (Entire Community Solution).

I like that idea a lot: having the code be public. I was kind of hoping that the solutions from the competition would be made available after it was over (I think that's what rahmu had in mind, actually) because I haven't had the time to actually attempt any one of the problems lately and I'd like to be able to look at them later.
Either way I think the main point is: If you're a talented programmer we'd like to see it! Show us your code! If you happen to write something that you think is particularly clever (or even particularly crappy!), put it up here.
You never know, it could make you internet-famous. :D

I don't mind my code being posted and have feedback and tips on how to improve.
Rahmu already gave me more than enough reviews about the exercises, yours and others' comments are welcome also.
Just as long It doesn't turn into .. "yours is better than x" ,"yours is worse" etc .. things would be fine.

I also would encourage people to post their code on the forum. In my opinion having your code read by others and receiving feedback is a great way to improve. I personally always post my code here and look for criticism.
As far as the competition is concerned, understand that I cannot force people to show their code. Some people have their own reasons why they do not want to show, and it's understandable. I do not and cannot claim any right over their code. The goal of the competition is to have an ongoing coding event that is organized with scoreboards, rounds, deadlines, etc. First round was a cool success, every programmer on the forum is strongly encouraged to participate. From what I have seen so far, some good coding has happened. We have great talent. Once the number of participants will be higher, we could aim to get sponsors, prizes, get more exposure, etc.
So, to make it simple:
I will not publish the code I receive, but I strongly encourage all participants to make it public by themselves.

It is a nice idea; I thought rahmu was going to publish the code received for the competitions. I personally have no problem about showing my code and I am open to any comments and constructive criticism about anything. You can get my code for
Competition 1 from
here the language of choice is C#.

I'm cool with posting codes after the programming competition rounds. The idea behind the competition was to learn how to solve problems within set deadlines, and of course collaborate with other more experienced programmers so one can learn not only how to code better but also how to approach a problem from different perspectives. My motto has always been: teach what you know and learn what you can. I admit I'm not the best C++ programmer, but if my crappy coding can teach others I'll post it. Also if someone wants the code in Matlab or VHDL, please say so cause I'm ready to solve the problem with the requested lingo. Will post code asap.
