  • Where can I find a fast wifi connection to upload a large file?

Hi, I'm visiting Beirut right now and I would like to upload a large file (200 MB) to youtube from my laptop. However, I can't seem to find a reasonably fast Wi-Fi connection... so far I've tried 2 hotels and 2 restaurants and they were all slow. Can someone recommend a place for me to try out? (I'm willing to pay for the connection if i need to)
If you have a friend studding at AUB, ask him to upload it to you (the Internet connection there is fast).

Unfortunately, I dont know anyone that's studying at AUB
Chesterfield, i recommend using a video editing software ( movie maker comes built into Microsoft systems) to make the file smaller in size. then upload the smaller file :) judging from youtube's 10 min video limit, a 10MB video would be of sufficient quality :)

The ten minutes limit was increased to fifteen minutes in July 2010, and Chesterfield is mostly uploading a HD video... so if he couldn't find any decent Internet connection, he will have to do it your way :)
Yeah, it's a large HD video, I can't really compromise on the quality.
In the worst case scenario, I can wait until I leave Beirut to upload the file, but I'd prefer to do it here.

I suggest to leave it uploading all night (aka Lebanese way) and pray no disconnection occur..
I've had problems uploading big files a couple of times... here's what I did to make it work:

1. Use dropbox to upload the file. Dropbox is fault-tolerant and smart about uploading. It can upload the file in chunks so you don't have to start and finish the upload in one session.

If you don't have a dropbox account you can sign up here and we'll both get some extra free space.

2. Place the file in your public dropbox folder and get the public link for it.

3. Find a friend in another country with fast upload speeds that will let you screen share for a bit or will do it for you. Download the file from the public link to their computer and upload from there.

I was at Breakfast 2 Breakfast pretty late one night and the internet there was pretty good. Hope that helps!
Zef, your solution made me think of an xkcd comic:

Workaround
chesterField,

You can compress your big file using Winrar, and split the compressing files into 3/9/12 or any parts you want depending on each part size,
so in this way each time you upload a ( .rar part) it wont take you long,

Edit : Uh sorry you wana upload to youtube, well you've got to have the Lebanese night, starting upload at night and praying for no disconnection !
