You won't need to change your GPU for another 3 years AT LEAST. What on earth are you talking about?! I don't plan on swapping my 260 for a long time.

What's the difference between all of the modern graphics cards anyway? There's a bunch of GT's and GTX's and I do not really understand what makes one superior to the other. I played COD:MW2 on my GT 240 and it performed AMAZINGLY!

I think this is just a rumor, its not officially announced by Nvidia. I dont think they are ready to start with that series until maybe amd announces anything.

Won't be launched until Q1 next year. No need for it, since the new AMD Radeon 6870 is only targeting the GTX460 and GTX470.

The main difference is in the number of cores, the more cores the GPU have, the more faster it can render 3D graphics, and the more expensive it will be!

There is no problems in the Geforce GTX 480.
The Geforce GTX 580 will not be released before one year from now, and there will not be a huge difference in performance between the two.

Agreed. It's not like older generations are worthless. Invest in a 580 once the 480 will be limited. Let's face it, that will not happen soon.

I still use a Pentium IV at home. Not my primary computer, but a very useful file server.

There's always something better coming out. It's easy to feel like your own device is obsolete already, but don't let it get to you. Take it at its own absolute value, rather than relative to newer hardware.

I am very happy with my GTX 260 and I dont plan to change it anytime soon, and I personally dont read fresh reviews about the latest video cards to avoid headache and the sensation of the need to upgrade, as long as my VGA is delivering a solid performance I dont care about what's new in the market :D

All these are numbers what we really care about is the result or performance in games and what we have seen is that developers are rushing to finish the game resulting in a not so optimized code that can crunch out the power of the GPUs in the current market.
On the contrary we have Crytek which struggles not to finish the game but to make you suffer by trying to get the gaming rig that can handle Crysis 2.

In fact i have noticed that Nvidia is releasing its new line-ups faster than AMD because the acquisition AMD to ATI has empowered ATI and endangered Nvidia check out many games that have been released and are sponsored by AMD not Nvidia(for example Command & Conquer 4).

Crysis (which came out in 2007) is still better looking than almost every game released 2008,2009 and 2010.
Crysis 2 is just a dumbed down version of crysis so it can run on consoles.

Well my strategy in hardware is to never get the newest techs. It's always overpriced, and you rarely need the increase in performance. Plus you never know what might come out and render this new tech obsolete. Whereas if you get last year's stuff, or even older, you'd know for sure what it is capable of and what its pitfalls are, and of course you'd get it for much cheaper.

I'm still really happy with my 9800GTX+ which i got two years ago!! I might consider moving to the 200/300 series (or its ATI counterpart) this year if i feel i need it...

There will always be new GPU in just 6 months. That doesn't mean that the "old" cards are worhtless. My old 8800 GTX served me 2.5 years, the other old GTX280 around 2 years (and still counting).

Ah dont get me wrong, I dont own a GTX480. I'm still on a GTX280, and yes its still a beast. It even showed better performance when i moved from native standard resolution to FULL HD resolution (check out my other thread about the issue). Well dont forget that new games will be released in DX11, so we will have to upgrade sooner or later.

When you pay the premium to get the fastest and latest, expect this premium to last you a couple of months LOL

Honestly, as long as my hardware is not forcing me to reduce details/resolution below acceptable levels I never upgrade.. I remember using my trusty old Geforce 6800 GT for 4 years before I had to upgrade... and I onlly upgraded to a Radeon 4650 (Dell Studio 17 laptop).. More than enough for playing EvE Online etc..
