Hi Geeks!!
I recently got a 4gb flash disk, when i copy a folder or any file (exe) it corrupt, some files work (like pdf or mp3 ),or even the folder become empty after removing the flash,i tried to format many times but nothing happened.
any help is appreciated
thanks!
hmm that kinda reminds me of a similar case...
that is, a friend had bought a 2gb usb stick. every time he attempted to use it, it would fail to save data beyond 128mb. not only that, it also pretended to go up to 2gb. so he went nuts with it since he had bought a large batch of that stuff and had resold them to his friends who were experiencing the same problem.
well, i plugged it in linux and began investigating. it sure claimed to be a 2gb but it wouldn't function beyond 128mb. at that point, I was suspicious. I took the usb stick apart and looked at the chip model and saw that it had an interesting soldering. I googled the chip model and it turned out to be a 128mb chip! what was done was that it was after manufacture, it was soldered in a manner that let the device show up as a 2gb memory stick while the actual capacity was only 128mb.
this happened like 5-6 years ago.

just to be on the safe side, test your stick as to what file size fits into it. for example create files with the sizes listed bellow and see which one fits in, the one from the left column or the one from the right column:

62mb against 65mb
120mb against 135mb
240mb against 270mb
490mb against 540mb
....
.. all the way up to 4096mb

if the copying of the file to the usb stick fails, then you have been screwed and have been sold a fake chinese crap. if all files fit, even a single 4000mb file, then your hardware is really screwed and you ought to take it back to the shop and have it swapped under warranty.
Format the Fuc*er in Fat32 .
@ bashlogic, all files seems to copy just fine with no errors, but when i reopen them from the flash it says corrupt (like Sql server (255 mb ) ),or if i copy a folder, when i reopen it from the flash,it become empty although the flash size is not empty, some files remains working (regardless the size of them),i dont know what is the issue.
@ J4D i did try that,and (FAT)and nothing happened
Thnx anyway

that still stinks, you did not seem to do the test as i recommended.
when you check the used capacity size. do not check from the drive, but select that one file only.
there is somethng you need to understand as well, that is how a filesystem cache and destaging works
because that gives you the illusion that the data is on the usb stick while it actually is not!
Dear Zero90, some things cannot just be worked out via written solution. Mind if one of the gang takes a look in person?

i Did try what u told me to do,i tried diffrent sizes like u said ,but its still the same,it dosen't depend on the size, for example i copied a file (exe),and tried to open it,it worked just fine,i took the flash out (safely remove ),and plugged it again, the file it didnt work, see how ?

@ Tigerheart.Hackers
what do u mean ?
LOL. Bogus Flash memory for sure. Im am sure the real capacity doesnt exceed 64MB or even 32MB. Hahahaha. You've been punked! I once bought a Sony 32GB flsh memory. The casing looked very similar to the sony flash memory, but the inner chip wasnt a sony for sure. turned out to be a 64MB chip. bought it for 20$ though :P
