As you all know, the LebGeeks wiki is now in private beta. For this month's IRL, let's have a wiki-editing party to give some structure to the wiki and agree...

Guys, I contacted T-Marbouta. They have a 50,000 LBP minimum charge for the whole group. That is, if our collective bill is less than 50,000 LBP we would have to pay the difference. Is everyone okay with that? I need to make sure we are at least 5 attending so that the bill is a maximum of 10,000LBP per person.

Note: it seems like we're doing it on Saturday at 4PM. Will make it official soon.

But Samer, why should we pay 50,000 LBP? Are we gonna eat lunch there?

Makes sense to me... we are taking up space for a few hours and using their resources, and we might not order any food or drink.
Though I hope there will be more than 5 of us; 10klp per person is too much.

Because we are reserving the whole Library to ourselves. I don't know if we can just go in there if we didn't reserve (it's probably OK) but let's play it safe, hm?

I thought you did that Samer but i dont think many are gonna attend, till now about 9.
Though the idea of reserving the library is cool i liked the books there :P.

I'm planning on being there if it's at 4:00 on Saturday.

I'm okay with paying a bit but it would definitely would be nice if there are enough people so it's not much for each one.

Is IRL really necessary? Sure, it has massive advantages, but it's also very demanding to organize. How about an IRC meeting? Anyone could join, from wherever they are. Easier to set up, free (no minimum charges), and (above all) I could join too ^^

@Aj_BlaZ: I'm talking about the September meetup. I'm not off-topic. I'm suggesting that we have it online for practical purposes. Don't play moderator, let the staff do their work. If you have anything to say to me, don't do it here, send me a PM.

What can we do in an appointed IRC meeting that we can't do here on the forum? I like the idea but I'm wondering.

PS. Samer, I suggest we open an IRC room for us that we can log into at any time & see who else is on. Or if you can make a chat room module here on lebgeeks.com, that would be great, with logging. What do you think?

We tried the IRC channel for a while. After a month or so of low activity, the channel was empty. Chat module could be a good idea, but should be discussed in another thread.

This beats the purpose of the forum. Furthermore, the life span of information in chats is really small.

The physical meeting (I hate the term real life; it's as if we are not really alive for 90% of our life) beats the purpose of having a forum. I suggest having activities rather than meetings. I even think that meetings are more effective in the forum (and if we were already meeting a lot physically we would have wished for this forum to exist). Oh, and wiki editting party does not amount to either an event or an activity. It's just a big bore really.

That is like saying that having a phone beats the purpose of having email or IM, or that meeting face to face beats the purpose of having a phone!
I'm ok with having the meeting on IRC though, even if only one person has a problem with it and I think the others would feel the same, but individual issues can easily be overlooked in a big group so it's good to share the problem, if there is any, of course. Personally I prefer face to face meeting and find it to be much different and entertaining as I need time away from the computer in a good atmosphere. It also makes it more formal, so more change and new things can happen.

This forum was very slow for a long time, but was kept alive, and now there is much more activity.
Personally, I am indifferent to having an IRC channel and think this topic is given too much importance.
