Hey guys, today the guy responsible for the إشتراك موتور which we are demanded a crazy monthly price of $75 that is to be paid for the month of September(yes he gets money from people at the beginning of the month for that month) for giving us 5 Amp/month. This is really crazy shit!
I just couldn't believe my eyes, someone making you pay $75 for a really "shit quality إشتراك " at the beginning of the month and you still don't know how frequently the electricity may be cut off during the month! Where is the logic in this! And all I see around me is neighbors acting like dogs and paying such bills without opening their mouths! Why don't the Lebanese people just agree once in their life time and try to make a movement to eliminate such blood sucking mafias?
Please guys for those who have إشتراك موتور tell me how much you pay per month and also please mention the area you are living in if possible just to get an idea of how the إشتراك موتور mafias are operating and their pricing.
P.S. I live in Mansourieh, and last month the إشتراك موتور charged us $60 for the same thing.
Thank you.

I visited Lebanon for a month and a half and got back to Canada a week ago.
Where I stay in the winter (Zgharta - North Lebanon), these mafias have meters now and you are not limited to 5 Amps. You can use as much as you want and you pay by kWh: Just like EDL (Electricity du Liban). I do not remember how much he was charging per KWh, but much more than EDL.
As for where I usually stay in the summer (Ehden - North Lebanon), the echtirak was $200 for 4 months for 7 amps.
What I hate the most about this is that people sit down and take it instead of revolting!! If everyone agrees that they will not get "echtirak" unless it gets cheaper, the generator owner will have to lower his prices.

Municipality sets the price.

lol well i live in dahye and the اشتراك give us the electricity instantly when the EDL (Electricity du Liban) cuts
and he takes like 60$ to 70$ at the end of the month

Not that I'm advocating for the generator folks, but do either of you know how much they spend for fuel and maintenance?
Again, municipality is the one that sets the price.
P.S.: Our building has its own generator we pay ~40$ for 5 amp

You mean the municipality sets the price in Mansourieh?

I see, so you are not much affected by this crazy monopoly that is going around.
Ghaleb
I live in Tripoli, we pay around 40$ per month for 5 Amp/month, pretty much all Tripoli pays the same amount (I think so)
MegaCool
Wish i was affected by that monopoly, because in my area we have the worse electricity and unfortunately no "Ishterak motor" dealers or whatever they're called..

Everywhere.

For the past 6-7 months, no i haven't. but prior to that i spent quite a long time paying 75$ for the generator subscription.

Damn man you can barely turn on one AC on that power. In my building there is a generator for the offices and home too, so we don't have this problem. You guys might want to get together (the building) and see if you can get a generator. It's very polluting and expensive (costs as much as a car...) but might be worth it in the long run. Especially for offices. You can also probably find cheap Chinese models.
BTW this is an environmental disaster waiting to happen... soon...

Last time I was in Canada, I was told that both electricity and water are unlimited (and Internet too, but we already know that). Is it true? Maybe it's part of the rental fee.

@rolf
We live in a house that we own so we pay bills (not cheap).
Some of my friends rent apartments and sometimes the water and electricity fees are included in the rent fee and sometimes you have to pay the bills separately.
On a side note, the following are the rates for electricity here:
7 am to 11 am 7.6¢/kWh
11 am to 5 pm 9.1¢/kWh
5 pm to 10 pm 7.6¢/kWh
10 pm to 7 am 4.2¢/kWh

We solved the issue for our residence alone. Simple, we got a nice small generator that provides 25 amps (costs ~900$),hooked to a home made system that allows me to turn it on from inside the house rather than going down. We turn it on whenever we feel like we need it. And its pretty cheap to operate !

Is it noisy? When you said small generator I thought one of these horrible small noisy things you start manually :)
J4D
nope, it has its own weather proofing and sound insulation :) We don't want our neighbors to kill us :D

You can get one of these cheap "with silencer" engines, but they are noisy and defective (the Chinese made ones)
you can setup up your own ats system with them, but their regulators are really crap and NEVER turn them off under load.
Resume: cheap, but you get what you pay for
PS: we pay 100$ for 15amps

well i live in the region of zahle , price per kilo ( thats what they say ) is 600LL , well with pc on 24 hours a day,tv always on,sometime AC,fridge always on etccc ... we maximum had 40$ or 50$ a month as a bill , my cousin lives in aindara they take like 50$ per month and crappy subscription,i always tell him why u never stand up against this?at least they deserve electricity after midnight :\ anyway that's what led lebanese people to this , ignorance and surrendering to the reality , without trying to change anything...
and yea we have 20 amp..
Kassem
Well I live in Dahye and we have a generator in the building I live in (just like xterm). Unfortunately, it's shared among two buildings so we only get 5AMP for around 40$. The generator doesn't turn on whenever the power goes out, there's a schedule for it.
I believe jadberro's solution is the best. Actually, I already talked to my parents about this a few weeks ago. But the generator costs around 1200$ so we'll have to wait for next summer. If the terribly situation stays as is, we're going to buy a generator.
Flakk
Well the last time i payed the bill was 45$ for 5 amps. But at that price the whole thing is pretty bad, our supplier's generator seems overloaded so every 15 minutes the electricity cuts off and we have to wait like 5 to 10 minutes to get it back.
Bassem
Today I paid 80$ for a measly 5 Amperes...
80 dollars!
