I was wondering if there is a way to bypass the requirement for BIS connenction on a BB to be able to use blackberry messenger (and the other similar apps such as facebook, google talk that require BIS to function)
Can I somehow make it work over a wi-fi connection in my house .. Or through the WAP connection of Alfa ?
The 40$ for BIS and the new limit is expensive .. So I'm looking for an alternative !
thanks for any help :)

There are two options am aware of one of which I have done and the other one, is purely theoretical.
1) You could subscribe to the 40$ BIS, and make your BB route its connection through WIFI instead of using the networks connection. I have done it and work very well, there is no need for special configurations and you can use as much data as your wifi connection allows you to.
2) This is only a theory, but when you sign in on your blackberry you get a message saying that you have been registered in blackberry's network, and when you look under settings, advanced settings, host routing tables, you should see some gprs and wifi lines. When you are not using BIS these dont appear, so my theory is that if you can get these service books you could try registering into the network.
Anyways I think the best thing to do is just buy the 40$ BIS and use it through wifi.

Thanks a lot that was really helpful
A friend of mine had the BIS .. But he deactivated after a month .. But the wifi icon on the homescreen began to display in bright white .. And since then he can stay connected to facebook and BB messenger through the wifi
But see my line is prepaid so I registered to the weekly BIS for 9$ but when it ended (after the week) I wasn't able to do the same as he did..
Anw thanks for the help and ill consider the second option

its because everytime you restart your phone it losses the service books, im guessing you friend either hasnt restarted his phone or alfa screwed up.

Good point .. Well I just contacted him and he's back in the service. So he's no use ..
Yeah I guess because I restart a lot .. Because my phone always freezes because of the tons of apps .. So I have to restart constantly ..
What if I register and then after the month I don't restart my phone as much as I can? Would that work? There must be a way . A hack .. A flaw in the system .. Can't WAP replace BIS? Is it because WAP runs on gprs and BIS runs on edge?
I don't want to sound cheap but BIS in lebanon is such a rip-off ! :S

BBM and other push services go through RIM servers, which require BIS.
Your best bet is to figure out how they authenticate the phone on their servers and try to replicate it (hoping that on the server side, your old credentials still work, which I highly doubt). Long story short, you're gonna' have to pay for the service.
