Hey everyone,

With the summer, everyone, including the most hardcore geeks get increased self-awareness about their body...
As all those who know me noticed I took one some weight.
So anyway I am sharing a little thing I found online. It started here:

http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2007/10/geek-diet-and-exercise-programs.html

Basically they say if we geeks can do incredible stuff, and hack stuff, then why cant we succeed at a stupid diet? If you follow the links you will get to the "Hackers Diet" and other dieting resources which are adapted to geeks and I have to say I like what I saw here way more then any miracle diet or other stuff I found. I mostly liked how they, in general, emphasize on learning, understanding and observing (isnt being a geek all about control, knowledge and understanding, after all?) instead of giving you a miracle formula that you probably wont follow.
It's not such a complicated task, all you have to do is:
-stop buying processed food
-when you take a break from your laptop, drink lots of water then grab a fruit and continue your work
-try to exercise more, even a simple walk around the house is enough :)
-STOP reading about diets online and about calories or food.

Best wishes :)
Thank you for your advice but I'll be frank: what you said did not work for me in the past because I was never able to stick to it. Thanks for the good intentions (i'm assuming you had good intentions).
It might very well work for you, though.
Rolf just do what you used to do!
Find a job that has lots of body movement involved :P
How about signing up at a gym?

I've been a very chubby guy, but over the past 2.5 years I've been going to the gym regularly. I had to stop for a few weeks whenever I got injured (last time I had to stop for 3 months due to a shoulder injury). Anyone who knew me before signing up at the gym would notice a huge difference in my body.

Keep something in mind: if you're smart, that doesn't mean you should look ugly. Just like you can discipline yourself to learn some of the tough stuff and be good at it, you can also take control over your body by following a low-fat diet and working out for 1-1.5 hour(s) on a daily basis.

In case you need any advice let me know :)
Chubby is not necessarily ugly.

True, my bad. Beauty is a God's thing. But being fit is definitely in our hands. "Geeks" usually do not give a damn about their body, their clothes, their hair... etc. and that's what I meant when I said "ugly".
MegaCool wroteI like chubby chicks :)
Really?

Chubby means close to being fat, in no way does it mean having curves.

Curvy is different than chubby. Curves are damn sexy, but chubbiness? No thanks. That's not curves, that's rolls of fat.
Anyway, let's not hijack the thread guys.

I myself am a poster boy for slightly overweight geeks. I've applied at a gym, for almost a year now. But that doesn't help unless you have the discipline to persevere and follow through with regular workouts. Discipline which I lack.

Right now I'm searching for another gym, one that would have a swimming pool and opens early in the morning... There's nothing like a morning swim to energise you.
Chubby can be used in different ways. For me it means: not skinny, not thin but not fat and kinda good looking.
What you call chubby, I would probably call it "a bit fat" or "slightly overweight".
It really depends on the way you define/view someone being a chubby, for me chubby means being curvy just like the epic boobs demotivational picture chick, or that stifflers mom milf from the old American pie(she's freaking ugly now)
well anything beyond this i consider it pure fat..

See, that demotivational curves chick is pure hotness. But I wouldn't call her chubby, just curvy.
Chubby is when it's sagging and not tight and the fingers especially are like sausages and are we really talking about this?

Then again, individual tastes vary.

Right now I'm having turkey breast and 0%fat cheese on brown bread, instead of the cheeseburger I'd like to be having.
Like Rolf said, it's about control.

do you know that brown bread doesnt always mean lighter? better read the nutritional facts before buying because brown bread (sometimes not always) contains more type of grains and not less calories.
Also just few things, from my experience:

1)Don't eat at night. Light fruids, juices, water. Last heavy meal not closer than 6 hours before sleep.
2)Avoid lazy things. E.g. go stairs instead elevator, park car more far, if something close - prefer go walking, than taking car.
3)Avoid AC. Heat motivating human body to become slimmer. Cold - makes you fat (to sustain cold at winter), it is nature "gifts". I didn't use AC at home all summer.
4)Buy simple training bicycle, run it 30 min per day. At the end you must run it on the edge (i mean regulate load like that), and you will be all sweating. Bicycling 10-15 min at _morning_ and shower then will charge you by amazing energy for all day. This will help your heart also.
5)Diet is simple. Less meat, less fat, less roasted and any other things. Prefer vegetables and boiled things. But don't avoid them completely, just make portion of "bad food" 2 times less.

P.S. Fasting and some types of diet will lead to fake weight loose, as soon as you finish such "excessive" diets, you will get your weight in 3-4 days back.

My result:
Was 98
Now floating 90-92, depends on regime.
In 2 weeks.
