Meeting minutes and Ideas for future

Fourteen people attended yesterday's meeting at Costa Café. Jad showed us his beautiful RC Tank and explained how it works, Bassem was nice enough to take a couple of pictures and Padre shared some nice old stories about his adventures in network security. I had the pleasure to meet some of the relatively new members and see the older ones again.

I passed around a print-out of our new Forum Etiquette that everyone physically signed on and agreed to respect (a separate topic will be open). I also exposed a new project "LebGeeks Wiki" that 13 out of 14 attendees want to contribute in.

As I said yesterday, I'm trying to make this a monthly thing. It doesn't have to be a standard meeting, I'm just trying to get us to do an activity together once a month. It could be paintball (software vs hardware), or any other sport/event/competition/etc.

What do you guys think?

First of all it was such a pleasure to meet most of the active yet genius members.

Secondly i really felt bad not to share enough information with many since my voice was pretty dead which was obviously cause by a massive Flu.

Tertiary , i feel sad for not meeting up with Rahmu(Rahimahu allah =p), since i kinda left early.

Now Concerning Samer's ideas, they're pretty cool and refreshing for most geeks out there =p, and i second your opinion about such activities , paintball is some cool shit , perhaps i can nail some asses with tons of shit and giggles.
However, i think that setting up a few number of competitions or perhaps a huge common project among 'Lebgeeks' members would probably induce some innovation and perhaps change thoughts of some people about the Lebanese technological state and logic scale, as it'll be an excellent thought to be highly considered and applied, and i think that the main theme of it should focus on applying in-applied theories that most likely seems to be applicable ,and validate it via proofs in theory and practice , by basing it off several layers of abstraction of both popular and underground creations and theories , that would certainly put in a "Change".

Exactly, we should create something BIG! big enough to join the power and knowledge of most of us, each in his field. And apparently, some hardware work will be involved. (just to include Jad in the project :P) and we should publish it under "LebGeeks Community".

The collective effort project idea is quite interesting and useful for all of us, maybe we can create a seperate thread for it for some brainstorming.

Some of the ideas I had for future meetings:

- A lunch at a good restaurant
- Paintball game
- LAN Game like Counter Strike or Call Of Duty at a decent network
- Sitting again in a cafe but that fits us all :P
- Watch an interesting movie(geek or technology related)
- Programming competition
- Rally Paper Competition(we can make it online too I guess)

So these are my ideas for now, If I have some more I will surely post. Looking forward to meeting you all again :)

Monthly sounds good; it's regular enough that all members should be able to attend at least a couple of times.

I suggest different timings and locations each time, to make it easier for members who aren't centered in Beirut or have different schedules.

As for activities, I like Padre's suggestion of LAN party(es)

It would also be cool if we came up with a project that pools everyone's knowledge, each helping the way he/she can. Something short-term and fun, like collaborating on a freeware game or software.

I love the idea of a tech Wiki made specifically for Lebanon, though this one is more long-term.

I have two TV sitcoms: Big Bang Theory and The IT Crowd, both very enjoyable for geeks.

If we find the right places to watch them, that can be a lot of fun. a few episodes per session, with popcorn and stuff like that...

Anyone have a large living room with big screen TV? (and HDMI?)

Guys, next time you go, take a laptop and stream the meeting either video or audio "Giving there's a good/connection". This would allow me and others who aren't in lebanon to participate a little.

The "LebGeeks Wiki" project seems a good idea, wonder if we are able to contribute.

I envy you guys. "Not really", Ok maybe a little!!!. :D

and how about robot wars - make 2 robots n let them battle :P maybe joudi can lead a team and jadberro another - that should keep them busy :P

If a real geek fest was organized, i'd be more than happy to do a presentation on the electronics-robotics in Lebanon ( and perhaps call for the assembly of the first Lebanese robotics group .

Robo-wars, well it can be made as a competition to see who can make a better robot to accomplish a specific task. But killing other robots is just mean !

a LAN party with file sharing and all should be fun. We rent a room in whatever place we can, get snacks, LAN equip and let it roll :D
