  • New project , a collaboration between Jad Berro and Ayman Farhat .

This is a new platform that will be the base of a collaboration work between me and Ayman Farhat , a superb robot by all means this will boast a lot of options !

-voice recognition and following
-remote operated arm
-custom made remote with an LCD screen for viewing menus
-3 distance sensors
-4 microphones
-1 amp motor controller
-2 drive motors with gearbox
-tank treads
-full autonomous
-wireless live feed camera
-teleoperated over network/internet
-on board compass

options you might suggest are more than welcome ! , the list will be upgraded frequently .
all our base are belong to you

but seriously, how much time do you think its going to take to finish this, and it would be great if you can setup a blog or something to document the progress and have people follow what you are doing every step of the way

Wish you goodluck

hey Darko , thanks for the support .
well i expect this done before the end of the summer .
about the documentation , well ill try to take a lot of pics , but i don't think i will have the time and effort to actually document , but i think Ayman will be up to this task with a nice website made by him ! :) .
Guys, what year in university are you now ?

How long will it take me to become able to do this stuff ?

Ive been accepted at LAU - Computer Engineering next fall, so thats where ill be, do you read some extra books or is it really that everybody else is just plain simple minded ? :p
-teleoperated over network/internet
Thats what I like most in this project xD

The university will never teach you everything, it just teaches you basics of everything, and it is your job to continue learning on your own, in addition if you have the ambition your major wont really affect what you are doing :)

For example Jad Berro is a CCE major, he is still first year yet in the field of electronics he knows more and has more experience than CCE graduates of his University. All of what he does, he didn't learn it at uni or school. As for me, I am second year MIS major, so I have never been into any electronics or hardware programming course. I only take the classical programming courses, and the arduino programming language is quite easy in terms of communicating with the hardware so I am learning it quite well. In addition I work as a hobbyist and freelance web developer yet I have never taken a single web development course.

I hope you understand my point here, it is all about following what you love, when you have an ambition towards learning something you will learn it and work with it, even if you have never studied that at uni.
I suggest to add a compass (to measure heading)
Using in coordination with the distance sensors, the tank might be able to draw a map from it's environment.
Good idea Rolf , added ! :) Mark , what Ayman said quite literally sums this up :)
@jad: Just throw a few keywords for me to start researching... I'd like to learn about building robots and this kinda stuff... seems very interesting :)
Kassem , search about arduino , its an open source platform very much documented on their main site . arduino.cc
I would add some kind of usb support, so you could connect any mobile modem and provide true mobile wifi, i mean you could be able to make the wifi router follow you wherever you want and you get the benefit of multiple connections.
I would also like to add some sort of speakers with pre-installed voice packs, so that it could talk to you or announce any kind of errors, problems, battery status, etc.

good luck
Well then i need the electronics basics and i'd be good to go ;) Good luck guys :)
Thanks for your input Babum .
Mark , trust me , its not the electronics basics you need to know . You need practical work , not theoretical .
Mark if you can get your hands on this book
http://www.amazon.com/Grob-Basic-Electronics-Books/dp/002802253X (this is the 8th edition, i have the first edition, a really useful book)

Its called basic electronics by Bernard Grob, i think librarie Antoine have it too. It should teach everything you need to know to get started. And when you are done i recommend you to start looking into building your first circuits on breadboards. Practice some simple circuits, get to know how they work and then move on to tougher and more challenging circuits.

you need theory, no matter what you think practice can teach you. if you dont have a solid foundation, you are going to drown sooner or later :) Learn the theory and go practice :P

Exactly. practice>theory
-_- ..... apparently u dont really get it.
No, unless ur just gona mimick other ppl circuits, or apply some small modifications, go learn the theory.

Apparently YOU don't get it . you need the theory , OK , but theory is not enough . You learn the theory for 4-5 years , Then practice for the rest of your life ! actually its that you learn the theory to practice !
lol guys calm down. You need both theory and practice, at the same time.

comin from the guy that said that ... im not sure who's not getting it.
anyway, good luck on your project.
Relax , im not getting it . i dont know sh*t about electronics and im an idiot .
