imadthemad wroteOkay i have a terranet 512 DSL connection that was awesome till like a month ago
i download alot of P2P torrents at night and i've experienced slowed connections (controlled) but recently its been going down to 0 B\s
and i never would have expected this, but it turns out its not even server side control.
the control is on my router!
i did a series of tests and it turns out my ADSL router's ping increases (monstrously) one i start downloading at night. and this only happens for P2P connections (i download http at 80-100KB\s no problem but the second i try p2p my connection shuts down instantly)
its like this:
right now as i post this message(no p2p connections past 10 minutes), i do ping 192.168.1.1, and i get 1ms (expected since its connected to my computer via LAN!)
i turn on the p2p connection, and my ping to 192.168.1.1 becomes 4283ms!
when i start closing the connections, the pign starts decreasing gradually over 10 minutes to around 10 and 4 ms and in 15 mins its 1ms again.
it fascinating! i mean maybe im wrong but from what i know of connections this means 2 things:
1) somehow my internet connection is being limited locally (by my router, not by isp). atleast even if isp is limiting my connection remotely like in the past, recently the extra limitation and experiencing 0BYTES\S and no connectivity is due to a router limitation.
2) this should mean i can somehow over come it, right? either by changing router settings or by changing router?
does anyone know anything about this? what should i do in my router settings to undo this?
I can think of four things:
1)The router might be dieing... so replace it with a new one...
2)Somebody had changed your router QoS settings... so reconfigure your router QoS settings...
3)A DoS attack caused by a virus (as
rolf suggested) or a bad user (on your LAN) is causing the router to stop functioning correctly...
4)Your ISP is shaping your bandwidth...
