  • Solar Powered Street Lights

I'm wondering if any one from here might know where I can get my hands on some solar/wind powered STREET LIGHTS.
Not the home use kind.

I'd like to buy from a local retailer as I need a large quantity and a guarantee. Possibly 25pcs.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Is it just me or a solar powered street light seem like a dumb idea? :P
no it charges during the day and discharges during the night.
There is a question mark in my mind about the price and efficiency of such a device, but i like the concept.

No i think its a good idea (at least here in lebanon)
Traffic lights in lebanon have UPSs powering them when the power goes out lol
They implemented some on the road from Jounieh back to Beirut, you can see some of the solar pans on the right of the highway.
This also needs to be implemented on the road from Beirut to the South. It's gets very dark there at night, and you end up being blinded by the high-lights of incoming cars, which makes you hate driving at night.
Here in Canada, they use these solar panels to power traffic signs and constructions signs. I have not seen street lights powered by solar panels, but as rolf said, the thing will charge during the day and discharge during the night. Hence, they will need batteries installed.
Yeah, they have a battery compartment. There is one on "Dahr Al Baydar" it's LED lights, and has both solar and wind turbine on it and it's the only light that is on at night.

I looked at the light but all it has on it is "Foxcom" and nothing more.

Still searching if anyone has any ideas/links. Thanks!
how about manufacturing them here ?! converting normal street lights to solar panel and turbine powered ones , i can create such system with ease ..... tell me more .
I've actually worked with them. They work pretty well but capital costs are huge.
yeah , they do cost , and have maintenance needs . but they are less expensive on the long run . LED lighting requires less maintenance and changing as well , also power efficient ! :)
My father was gonna invest in this, but I don't know what happened. He talked about them a lot, and talked about fixed lights in the ground that also help light the roads, and also charge on solar power and discharge during the night.
I've seen the ones on the ground, they'll probably be our fallback if we can't find the solar LED ones
