This is just a rant. So if you don't like reading, you can move on :)
As some of you know, I don't live in Lebanon but I come when things are needed.
My parents got DSL and my family has been using the internet, and so has everyone else nearby (only 3 people in my area have internet).
Anyway, I got here and I needed to use the desktop for some work related things (Illustrator on the laptop is just not enough).
I turned it on, noticed it was extremely sluggish and a weird "New Folder" that I just could never open, or delete. Then upon checking the properties figured it was an EXE with a nifty folder icon. haha...so yeah, virus/malware.
Safe mode into command prompt and deleted the mofo. Bad move.
Booted up and no taskbar or anything else. But I could CTRL+ALT+DEL to the task manager.
I have been downloading and downloading and reading and reading and cleaned 36 out of 37 viruses off this machine and have one last dead end. All of this by "Browsing" the RUN prompt and using my phone as a USB drive from the laptop to the desktop. (that's damn annoying!)
All have been cleaned out except one. One bastard.
VIRUT
This son of a bitch is killing me and just now at 12AM read this report that it is a jacked up virus because the original coder was too lazy to code it properly and now just turns out to screw every damn exe alive. He probably meant to type "Virus" instead of "Virut" as well.
The bitch of this all is I've had my parents using a limited account which should relatively stop all viruses from hurting the system but I think my safe-mode command line routine may have unleashed hell.
So now I have to reinstall XP and search for these homo drivers for this brand-less desktop.

My computer was infected with something annoying. I used avira antivirus, malwarebyes anti-malware thing ( i think... i used an anti-malware, not sure it's this one but pretty sure), then heavy handedly disabling services and startup programs in msconfig, then disabling most shell extensions in shexview, applying a ton of updates, service pack, and everything i could get my hand of... and well the viruses are gone!
My PC worked well (relatively, that is...) for a while. It died today though :-) (well, at least the windows part of it... it doesn't get past the windows loading screen... cant think for a reason...)
My 2006 macbook is still working :-\ ... 24/24, with my whole home directory encrypted... sure I had to change the HD twice, the power adapter once (and then fix it again), change the battery, and the keyboard still has unoperative keys on it ... but I never was forced to do a scan or reinstall or anything like that in OSX.

I installed Avira, Avast, Combofix, Search and Destroy, Malwarebytes, Microsoft Removal Tool (which was the most successful, and is the program that told me I had "Virut" left), GMER, RRKill, and a handful of other crap. They either came back with "No viruses" or errored when trying to launch. (This program infects every new EXE that is opened/created)
I booted with the most minimal of services and still this thing kept going at it. No taskbar, no nothing.
I've cleaned viruses and malware out of machines in internet cafe's but this thing is the worst!

I doubt he meant to write Virus instead of Virut.. The letters are too far away from each other for a coder to miss.
One thing to know: I read somewhere that the word "screensaver" in google is the most word with links to malware.
(of course searching for "download malware" is something else :p )
So I guess they caught one or more of the 37 viruses while looking for screensavers to download.
