  • Any Ruby on Rails developers / enthusiasts here ?

We're looking for Ruby on Rails developers, enthusiasts or people who are eager to learn, play and develop exciting applications using ROR.

If interested, please contact us over here : bit.ly/b2jAvK

Waiting to hear from you !
On a side note: Wouldn't Django be more fitting for naharnet considering it was originally implemented for the sole purpose of satisfying the author's company's newspaper needs?

I think there's an RoR developer on lebgeeks anywho.
Comparing Rails to Django is a topic on it's own that is worth a very very long debate :)

After comparing languages out there and development cycles, we chose Ruby on Rails which proved to be the best for our needs.

We've compared most CMSs out there and came to the conclusion that they are not built for the next generation of web publishing services.

We decided to tackle the challenge by building our own CMS using ROR.

The unfortunate part of this story is that there are less Ruby on Rails developers we could find in Lebanon than fingers on one hand :( and have to resort to hiring people abroad.

We are aiming to have the first ROR team here in Lebanon :)

So if anyone knows ROR or is curious to learn, just hit this link bit.ly/b2jAvK !
I'm glad you did the comparison. Companies are accustomed to follow the herd.

RoR and Django developers here in lebanon are very very rare (if any). I was trying to build a Django team and was unable to do so thus we had to resort to a team being deployed in Saudi instead.

In lebanon, your best bet is to grab someone with good knowledge of any weakly typed language and familiar with web aspect.

I'll try to pass along recruits if i get any hint of the word "Ruby" on a CV.

Good luck
You should be looking for talent based on a metric more suited to the task: quick learner, object oriented, framework design, documenting instead of language experience (which as far as I know, could be picked up almost while being productive).

Me and my partner are dedicated freelancers. If you are willing to give this thing a shot, we may collaborate to carve out yet another CMS with you.

Let me know if you're interested.
Hey Sami!
It's nice to see you here :)
I'll make sure to ask around for Ruby developers (I guess it wouldn't be hard for them to learn RoR).
Hey Arithma, we have no specific metric and are rather open regarding experience.

We are looking for people who either know ROR or are curious to learn :) Anyone can learn ROR and there are no prerequisites to doing so. It's actually easier to learn when you're not "biased" by experience in other "non-object oriented" languages.

The CMS we are developing is not Yet another CMS though :) We're rethinking the way CMSs are designed from the ground up as we're tackling issues related to the semantic web and the way the publishing industry must evolve to adopt new technologies and create new innovative services.

If you're interested in learning more, we'd be happy to meet with you guys.

Samer ! Good to be here ! Thanks for the support !
We are definitely interested. I sent you in a PM my contact info so we may set up a meeting.
The 'Yet Another' part is just something common in frameworks and so on. Not meant in a bad way. Our experience in this field has been mostly related to creating CMS backends that serve out XML.
Maybe you're interested in XMPP? Its originally an IM protocol, but can be used as an AJAX replacement, since it allows push from the server without the polling usually needed - using BOSH, a technique similar to Comet programming.
Since you're into news, might suit you well!
Hey guys,

Noticed the thread about RoR developers and other interesting stuff.

I think what naharnet is trying to do is building the next generation news platform. I've seen their elections site and knew a bit about the engine behind.

Rails is mainly used for the easiness to get a prototype quickly up and running and then scaling out.

I'm surprised there are no Rails devs in Lebanon when there are very interesting ongoing projects. Just look at the popularity of this framework in Jordan and Syria within their startups.

Ruby is really an awesome language to learn and program with (without going into details and comparisons).

Perhaps we can organize a group meeting where we can discuss all this? Naharnet, what do you think?
