Kassem wrote@ pikatore: You claim that violence is never a solution. In a perfect world, yes you are right but unfortunately we do not live in a utopia. From personal experience, I can tell you that violence is sometimes the ONLY solution. Trust me, I'm not a violent person at all, I try to tolerate others as much as possible but sometimes it goes way out of hand and you have to take action i.e: beat someone up.
You claim that violence is never a solution
The above claim is not a claim I have ever made. It is a straw man argument, and I will not respond to it.
Kassem wroteThere is a Western saying which says "Sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt". I believe that is bullshit, because sometimes words can hurt much more than sticks or stones can. Plus, who gave anyone the right to insult someone else's beliefs?
That's not how rights work. Nobody GIVES anyone a right to insult beliefs, they are rights that every person is entitled to by default.
Kassem wroteIf you have a problem with a religion, keep that to yourself. No one gave you the right to insult this religion especially not in public and then claim that you are simply expressing your freedom of speech. I might disagree with other religions/ideologies but I do not go in public bashing at them and making fun of their idols. That is not a civilized action in any way.
It isn't civilised to have blasphemy laws and stifle criticism/humor that addresses a religion.
People can say whatever they like, and if it's something that falls into categories like harassment, slander, assault, and so forth, they should be prosecuted for it.
But just because you don't LIKE what someone says, even if they are doing it just to piss off people like you or people of your religion, you have NO RIGHT to muzzle them. This is something a tyrannical dictator might be partial to, but not in a modern and free civilisation.
Kassem wroteThe way I see it, you really need to double check your beliefs and values.
I'm sure you do. But your case is very weak, and in my opinion, is one that seeks to violate the right to free speech. Pure and simple.
