Hey guys...

I am new to this forum .. and maybe i could have some local help..

i tried looking for the following on the web but i did not find a lot of help.

i am trying to setup a COD4 MW2 lan party with a couple of my friends..

what type of switch / hub do we need to use ???

if you could help .. i would appreciate it

PS... would this be useful ?? http://www.digitalyes.com.au/prodView.asp?idproduct=18455

any setting we need to do on PS3 ??
Yes a hub like that should work perfectly. Depends on the number of players.
Make sure you have enough cables to connect the ps3s to the hub and youre set.
Any internet connection needed ??

Any configuration needed for the PS3 or just plug and play ?
Im not really sure but i think the router you are connecting your ps3s should be connected to the internet.
When you connect the ps3's, go to the network status page and check for IP's and make sure they each have obtained IPs of their own (192.168.1.3 or something similar).
Also make sure all PS3s have the same firmware version or they wont connect.
Well i never played CoD games a lot but LN doesn't need internet i think but the most important thing is to assign the IPs correctly.

Cant the ps3 connect with other ps3s through WiFi without a hub?

You mean connecting the ps3's directly to each-other using wifi ? I guess it would be possible in setting it up in adhoc mode and searching for wifi connections with another ps3. But i doubt it will work.
Good luck man ...

My friends and I wanted to do that, but we just cancelled the whole thing after knowing that we cant play COD MW2 splitscreen and Lan at the same time. :(

So we've been loocking for a game that can handle that with no success. The only one near to what we need
is warhawk but an online connection is needed. Warhawk allows 4 players splitscreen to go online .. thus a 4 vs 4 Lan online play.

But no other games out to date.

Anyways hope it will work out for you. And if you know a game that works splitscreen and lan at the same time let me know.

Quite simply, I have 3 playstation 3 that I would like to connect together for lan play (OFFLINE). I connected all three to a netgear network switch via standard LAN cables. However, when I go into the game im unable to conenct to the other playstations.

My connection is setup like this:

PS3-1 -> Switch
PS3-2 -> Switch
PS3-3 -> Switch

Ive looked on the web but I cant find any instructions other than "use a crossover cable" which isnt applicable in my case. Do I need a router rather than a switch, or do I need a switch and a router? Is the switch ok, I just need to configure my network settings correctly on the playstation 3?

any guides ?
1- Are the 3 ps3's updated to the same firmware?

2- Get a router (This way the router will assign for each ps3 it's Ip address)

3- On the ps3's set in the Network settings : Detect automatically.

As i imagine, u already have a wireless router. so try to connect the 3 ps3's to the router wirelessly and test on it.
i just figured out the solution last night !!!!

:)
afaik COD MW2 can't be played on LAN. The LAN option is present in COD4 but not in COD MW2.

yeah man it worked... i opted to go with wired network connection instead of wireless..

with wired i could get giga speed .. so its better than wifi !! coz i think the ps3 cant get the N-router speed !
it has G-wifi capabilities. so finally:

its a wired network
with a dhcp router
a 16 port switch
and all connected together

the ps3 get their IPs from the router ... and then .. GAME ON !
