darko here's an example: User 1 is a customer of Company A User 2 is also a customer of Company A User 1 decides to visit User 2 and takes his modem that has his Lnumber configured in it with him User 1 plugs the modem at User 2 house and now he's connected using User 2 phone line the question is, can Company A know what just happened or does all they see is that a User 1 Lnumber has just logged in and what info does the company log everytime we connect
Aly I don't know how all ISP have their infrastructure, but basically, your phone line is first of all hooked to a DSLAM than when your modem connects with the PPPoE username and password it will be on a Radius server, if the username and pass are correct the modems gets an IP. I did it once with a friend from same ISP but with different regions and CO he gave me his L number and pass and I gave him mine and we both connected successfully, btw the ISP doesn't monitor such activity they just care about the account and its consumption, if you consume your quota in your house, friend's house, on the beach ... it is all the same for them. PS: tested on IDM about 6-7 months ago.
kareem_nasser When i call IDM they tell me my account directly so my phone number is saved on there database.
Aly Yes the fact that your Lnumber is assigned to a phone number in their database doesnt mean that that this L number cant authenticate on another phone line.
chosen2k belal wroteWould it work if user A & B have different ISP's ? Negative.(i tried it) Thanks for the answer belal, I'm with Ogero, so i was thinking to share username/passwords for the unlimited quota :D
darko ok guys, after alot of testing i came up with the new result 1-the dsl isp only keeps track of ur Lnumber and not ur phone number meaning that if user A and user B use isp C, user A can take his modem and go to user B house and work from there without the isp noticing. Its also possible for user B to change the Lnumber and password on his device and use user A's Lnumber and still the isp doesnt care, cause simply they wont know!!! 2-any dsl user with a Lnumber and password can get online using any dsl equipped phone line, meaning that if u are with IDM for example, u can go to ur friends house who's with ogero and use his phone line to connect to IDM so here's how dsl is set up as far as i figure till now user with Lnumber@company and password connect to ogero through the phone line, then ogero contacts the company servers and authenticates using the Lnumber and the password without relaying the phone number, once authenticated, a session is started for the user and he's granted access to that company's servers user---->ogero----->ISP
chosen2k Great man ... Nice :) One more question ...Is it possible to be connected, at two different places at the same time using the same Lnum and password ?
rolf darko wroteso this means, that they dont have a record of the phone number you are using to connect? Common sense tells me they phone number has to be logged somewhere.
darko well im still not sure, sometimes im getting an authentication failed message, but the thing is that looking through the logs u'll see like session started at 9:30 lasted for 5600seconds and then right after it another session started at 9:31 and last for 900seconds so not sure, try it and let me know what happens
darko rolf wrotedarko wroteso this means, that they dont have a record of the phone number you are using to connect? Common sense tells me they phone number has to be logged somewhere. well i've been using an Lnumber on a different phone number for about a month now and they havent noticed and i even called the tech guy, gave him the Lnumber im using while connected and told him that my connection is slow, he comes back to me and says "i dont see any problem from our end sir and you're connected fine please restart ur modem" so dumb ISP is dumb
