Try not to spend time on a console application and jump start with a web application.
I would agree with you, but I am not interested in GUI apps or web apps for now. The way I see it, I want to learn Python for scripting purposes, automatic basic admin stuff rather and I need something different than bash (too strict) and Perl (too... unreadable).
Console apps have the great advantage of being light-weight and remotely accessible (by SSH for example). My idea would be ultimately to sum up all my regular maintenance tasks and add a event-driven interface, install the whole thing on my server and use it. I don't know how easy it would be but I figure if I take the time to do it, it might help out a lot (I hate doing the same procedures over and over again). For now, I'm concentrating on my address book thing.
As for django, I read nothing but great things about it, but I have to stick with PHP (and
Symfony) as I need them for work. But if it was up to me, I'd chose Python over PHP anytime.
Anyway, thanks for
curses. This is exactly what I was looking for. The documentation you gave me seems nice. I'll try it tonight.
If you can post your code i'll try to assist you with it.
Thanks a lot, I might take you up on that.
